Meet Elijah Christian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elijah Christian.

Elijah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up listening to a lot of Christian rap in my earlier teenage years. Artists like Lecrae, Andy Mineo, Social Club, etc. always gave me an interest in rap/hip-hop. August 2015 was when I got really inspired, by a few artists on SoundCloud, to start making my own music. These kids were only a year older than I was (16-17) and I thought if they can make music at a young age, so can I.

I started releasing singles, and then eventually my first rap project in 2016, an EP called They Won’t Understand Me. So now, three years later, I’m working on wrapping up my debut Album, hoping to be released by late February of 2019. The album has a variety of sounds, from rap and electronic to soul/RnB. Much to come in 2019!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some of the obstacles and encounters that I’ve faced were things like not having a budget for beats or any knowledge on producing. Also, not having a budget for artwork was a tough obstacle.

Once I learned how to produce my own beats, I then ran into the problem of not knowing how to mix my songs properly. When I was in high school, I ran into the problem of not being able to focus on my grades, and I was failing classes because I was too focused on when my next song was dropping. Haha.

Elijah Christian – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Elijah Christian is a brand that I’ve been building since 2017 after my stage name change from Elijah Bernal.

Christian is my middle name and I personally just think the name rolls off the tongue smoother. I specialize in photography and music production. On the weekends I help my friend/business partner, Reece Woolsey, sell his clothes at venues in the DFW area.

While he’s making sales, I’m making connections with people and shooting photos for any important people at those events. I’m mainly known for my music, but I’m equally as proud of my photography.

I think what sets my music apart from the majority is I’m not afraid, to be honest, or transparent about my life. If I’m struggling with something or feeling a certain way, music is a way I can release those emotions.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Getting the opportunity to perform for the first time in March 2018 has probably been my proudest moment in my career thus far.
