Meet Elizabeth Hastings of FTWtoday

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Hastings.

Hi Elizabeth, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story starts in Arkansas, my home state. I lived there for 26 years, though I didn’t truly appreciate it until after college. I graduated with a degree I had little interest in — to this day, I’m not sure I could clearly define it — and at 22, I landed my first “big girl” corporate job. Over the next three years, I felt lost, dissatisfied, and honestly a little depressed that I didn’t have a clear passion or dream to pursue.

During those early years, I became obsessed with fashion blogs. I’d read my favorite bloggers every day to pass the time, and eventually I decided to create one of my own. I started writing about fashion, lifestyle, and things to do in Little Rock, Arkansas, where I was born. I built a website and an accompanying Instagram for three years, and just as it was gaining traction, I decided to move to Fort Worth, Texas — still with the same company. I put the blog aside to enjoy my new city, though I often thought about bringing it back, even as the industry shifted.

Fast forward to October 2024: I saw a job opening for City Editor at FTWtoday. The description aligned perfectly with everything I had loved about running my personal blog and everything I’d been searching for professionally. I’ve now been in the role for a little over a year, and I’ve truly never been happier. It feels like I finally found what I was meant to do.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m lucky to have an incredible support system — friends and family who have backed me no matter where the wind blows — but the biggest struggle was feeling like I didn’t have a real passion. There’s some regret tied to that, especially around choosing a college major that didn’t suit me. I know a degree isn’t everything, and it certainly doesn’t guarantee happiness, but at the time, it felt like the only acceptable path.

I had interests sure, but I couldn’t see a clear route into any of them. Looking back, I wish I had asked for more help — from a guidance counselor, an academic advisor, anyone — but I was too shy and honestly didn’t even know where to start. That uncertainty stayed with me for a long time, and navigating it was one of the hardest parts of my journey.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about FTWtoday?
I’m the Newsletter Editor for FTWtoday, which is a free, daily newsletter about things happening in and around Fort Worth. We cover everything from the best brunches and happy hours to local events to key city updates – all in a way that’s easy to read and genuinely fun. What we don’t cover is crime or politics; our goal is to give readers a daily dose of positivity without the noise. What sets us apart is our commitment to accessible, non-biased, community-focused reporting. We want readers to feel informed, not overwhelmed, and to walk away with something that brightens their day. Personally, I’m most proud of getting myself to this point. It took a lot of trial and error to find the work that feels meaningful, and I’m grateful every day that I get to do it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My entire team at 6AM City, which operates in more than 30 markets across the US, has played a huge role in my success. Our editorial leadership has been my biggest group of cheerleaders — always encouraging me, providing thoughtful feedback, and helping me grow as a storyteller. The management team consistently offers support, whether it’s brainstorming content ideas, celebrating wins, or stepping in with guidance when I need it. Their positivity and collaborative spirit truly make all the difference.
