Meet Elizabeth Rainey of Joyful Hands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Rainey.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elizabeth. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a wife to an amazing man Nathan Rainey and Mother to our Smart, Strong-Well, beautiful, playful Ladybug. Born and raised in Monrovia Liberia, at the age of 11, I was blessed enough to reunite with my Mother in the United States in 2001 after the last Liberian civil war. After putting my self through college and earning my Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice, I had a burning desire to give back to my community, After working roughly eight years as a Youth Development Professional in a lower-income community which I also grow up in, I decided to start my own Nonprofit Joyful Hands.

With our Joyful Hands Nonprofit initiative, it is our mission to positively contribute purposeful solutions to the ongoing challenges that many non-affluent children around the world experience. In addition to providing school supplies and tuition to underprivileged children around the world we also aim to provide reading materials as an earnest effort to improve literacy. Joyful Hands has been a lifelong dream that is manifesting itself into a driven educational initiative where our vision is “to hand children knowledge that will empower them to create opportunities for themselves to live a joyful lives”.

As a young girl growing up in Liberia, I recognized at an early age the challenges faced by my fellow Liberians as it pertains to education and poor literacy. It is my prayer that with this Nonprofit, we will be able to change the lives of those that are struggling with basic life necessities as it relates to their education.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest challenges was actually overcoming the spirit of fear, just getting things started and sharing my dreams/visions with others was a major obstacle for me. However, once I gain the courage to share my vision/dream of Joyful Hands I was blessed and overwhelmed by the support of family and friends etc.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
