Meet Elizabeth Zamora of tx elizabeth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Zamora.

Elizabeth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started back when I was in college at Southern Methodist University. I had an instant interest in media relations and publicity through my involvement in a few student organizations where I promoted events and recruited new members. This lead me to study corporate communications, specifically public relations and social media – at the time Facebook and Twitter were only a few years old. I was a natural at this and picked up the PR practice easily. When I wasn’t studying or in class, I would often read blogs and get lost in all of the fun blog posts I would read. Everything from fashion to eating healthy to travel and anything related to college life.

This was back when bloggers didn’t have a name, they went by their blog names, such as coffeeandsparkels or sunsetsandjoy. I started my first blog during college on WordPress and focused on the Latino/Hispanic culture since it’s what I knew best. I’m Mexican-American and one of the first people in my family to attend college, so I felt compelled to share my experiences and advice to others. I called my blog, Girl Meets Blog, but it’s not active anymore. Fast forward to the beginning of my career… I worked for a few PR agencies where I had the opportunity to be a part of many exciting campaigns from the Girl Scout cookies to a Super Bowl commercial with Avocados From Mexico and music collaborations with a few Dr. Pepper Snapple Group brands.

Although I wasn’t on the blogger side of things and wasn’t blogging at the time, I realized I missed blogging. At the time I also had a few friends who blogged, mostly fashion, so they too inspired me to get back into blogging. I decided on the name “tx elizabeth” for my blog because I’m a Texas-girl (born and raised) and it has a nice ring to it. This name had also been my Twitter handle since college, so the branding recognition was already there. Fast forward again to today… I’ve been blogging about travel and lifestyle topics for over 1.5 years and love it. It’s been such an adventure and I’ve been able to build relationships with other bloggers and brands in DFW.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been somewhat of a smooth ride. The toughest parts involve establishing a brand identity and finding the time to run my blog. I work a corporate 9-5 job and chair the Hispanic Alumni of SMU, so I often time spend my evenings/nights and weekends on content creation from writing to editing and brainstorming.

Working on my brand identity is an ongoing process because as I grow as a person, my thoughts, ideas and preferences change. I want to make sure I’m writing valuable, unique content that resonates with others.

Please tell us about tx elizabeth.
My blog, tx elizabeth, is Dallas-based and focuses on travel and lifestyle. I believe what sets me apart from others is that I share informational content about different places to visit, such as cities, countries, restaurants and much more. Additionally, being a native Dallasite, I have an insider’s perspective when I document things happening around the city. I’m so proud to be from Dallas and to live in Texas.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
It’s hard to say since blogging and social media the time when I was in college was so new, but I would have liked to start my blog, tx elizabeth, much sooner. There are so many stories I never had the opportunity to share.

Such a great feature on Elizabeth. I love getting to know the person behind the brand.
