Today we’d like to introduce you to Ellie Swanson.
Ellie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was fed up for paying so much for designer earrings, so I decided to start making them for myself. My friends and family all loved them, so I decided to share the love! I wanted to create stylish and affordable earrings for myself. I never in my life dreamed that my little hobby would turn into a business. But here I am, almost a year later! It’s been an incredible adventure so far, and I can’t wait to show off what we have in store!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One large challenge we faced was with allergens. I myself am sensitive to some materials used in cheaper earrings, but nowhere near as sensitive as some are. Many of my close family are celiac, so I take any allergy very seriously. So it’s been a little scary to try to source and provide quality hypoallergenic materials for those who wish to purchase earrings from us because I firmly believe everyone should be able to have the products they want available to them. So, after a couple of months of a little trial and error, I’m confident we’re using the finest materials available.
Sparklenaut – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Sparklenaut is dedicated to making beautiful jewelry available to as many as possible! We primarily make earrings and necklaces, but we’re slowly branching out to include accessories for men as well. I feel like the thing that we’re best known for, most proud of and sets us apart from others is all actually all the same thing: quality.
I used to buy earrings from popular and “hyped” brand names that came with a price tag several times what we charge, and they would always show signs of corrosion or other problems within just a couple of weeks. I wanted to make sure that our products wouldn’t get the same complaints that I had with other brands.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I would say a good balance of job satisfaction and customer satisfaction. If your customers are happy but you and your employees hate your jobs, you have a big problem. If you and your employees are happy, but your customers aren’t, you have a huge problem! Personally, one of my favorite quotes is “If you love your job, you never work a day in your life.”
When you see someone who does what they love, and their customers are happy, I would call that success.
