Meet Elyssa Washburn, Au.D. of Love To Hear Again Audiology

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elyssa Washburn, Au.D.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Elyssa. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have made contributions to the field of Audiology through qualitative research and by volunteering my services at several community and special population outreach programs, including church hearing screenings, community and senior health fairs, the Arkansas Special Olympics, and the NBRPA 2017 health & wellness conference. Prior to my current position, I gained clinical experience at Arkansas Hearing Solutions, Arkansas Otolaryngology Center, Searcy Audiologic Services, University of Arkansas – Little Rock Clinic, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and O.C. Physicians’ Hearing Services in Southern California.

My husband’s position moved us to the Dallas area in 2016, where I joined Dr. Richard Navarro’s Love To Hear Again, Inc practice with the intent of taking over the clinic upon his impending retirement scheduled for 2017. In August 2017, I purchased the practice and have re-branded as “Love To Hear Again Audiology”. We recently finalized renovations, and have moved into a much larger clinic space just next door to the original practice location on Main Street in Historic Grapevine.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Harding University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Sciences & Disorders in 2010; then in 2014, I achieved my Doctorate of Audiology from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and was the recipient of the Student Clinician of the Year award within my graduating class. During the first 3 years as an audiologist, I practiced under my maiden name Dr. Elyssa Doom… that’s right “Dr. Doom”! My SoCal patients were highly amused. My professional affiliations are as follows: Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), certified through the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association (ASHA), and current licensure in the State of Texas as a clinical and dispensing audiologist.

My professional interests include hearing conservation & custom ear products, adult and pediatric hearing, tinnitus and balance assessments, hearing device technology, and verification, and assistive listening devices systems. Some personal interests/hobbies include Reading, travel, trying different cultural foods and drinks, and sharing my passion for living & looking younger longer, through safe, organic, nutritional supplementation (Shaklee brand product distributor) which I also incorporate into my holistic geared audiology practice.

Has it been a smooth road?
As far as being “Dr. Washburn, the audiologist”, I am very confident in my diagnostic and treatment abilities and have many happy patients. I’d say any challenges I’ve faced have been more recently along the lines of newly being practice owner (business management side). Most medical or health-related degree programs don’t spend much time on the topic of business acumen, so I’ve gleaned from my former employers and other practice owners I know, taken CEU courses geared toward practice management, and of course keep an experienced accountant on retainer (my husband, Preston) for any financial and budget advice I need. I thank the Lord above that he opened the door for this opportunity and continues to bless this endeavor as I learn and grow!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Love To Hear Again Audiology – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
