Today we’d like to introduce you to Emile Abdo.
Emile, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born and raised in South Florida where I graduated pharmacy school in 2014. I decided to move to Dallas in 2016 after a fellow pharmacy friend told me to come out.
After working as a pharmacist for one of the large box chains I kept seeing a disconnect between patient-centered care, I decided to take a leap of faith and open up my own pharmacy practice.
After a year of planning and searching, I was able to secure a location and broke ground in March of 2018. I wanted my pharmacy to be centered around patient care rather than profit.
Patients have the choice to go to any pharmacy but what sets mine apart is personalized customer service.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, as with any startup project you will run into unforeseen issues! My biggest obstacle has been obtaining insurance contracts which happen to be the backbone of the pharmacy.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Uptown Rx Pharmacy & Nutrition story. Tell us more about the business.
Our pharmacy carries pharmaceutical grade vitamins & supplements which sets us apart from the large chains. In addition, we also compound patient and pet-specific medications.
We recently bought an Inbody body composition machine which we hope to incorporate in our wellness program that we will offer to patients.
The hottest new natural supplement on the market is CBD hemp extract which we carry in our pharmacy. This newer product is helping patients get off of addictive narcotics and other medications.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
There seems to be a lot of discussion about mail ordered pharmacies, and we feel like people still enjoy the personal touch of speaking to a pharmacist’s face to face.
