Today we’d like to introduce you to Emilia Zeller.
Emilia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was recruited by a co-worker in 2009, wanting me to foster Labradors for the organization because I had 3 labs at the time, and I am an avid Labrador lover. I began fostering after I lost my senior lab the next year. I soon was recruited to evaluate dogs for the Incoming team. Over these years, I have volunteered in many capacities, to my current position on the Board as the Executive Director
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Never a smooth road. There are always more dogs in need of help than we (or any rescue) has the physical and financial resources to accommodate.
One of the largest struggles is making people understand the importance of spaying and neutering their animals. The discouraging of back yard breeding and educating in the importance of vaccinations and heart worm prevention in their dogs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are a 501c3 non profit organization that is 100% volunteer supported. We rescue Labrador Retrievers from primarily shelters around the DFW Metroplex. We are known for our standards of caring for our dogs and our high standards in adoption of these dogs.
What sets us apart is the number of dogs we are able to save, the quality of care that we give our animals and the adoptions standards that we follow. Being 100% volunteer based, we have little administrative overhead, .97 cents of every dollar we raise goes to support the dogs
What were you like growing up?
Very active child. I grew up in the country, I had a horse and as a family we had dogs and cats. I was always outdoors.. I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up.
