Meet Emily Lowe of Emily Jean Photography in Northwest

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Lowe.

Emily, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always had a lust for capturing memories with photos. I have boxes of photos from my teenage years, back in the day when you had a roll of film to take to Eckerds to be processed. Every day I am driving or I see an image I am constantly thinking of how I could use the scenery to make something even more beautiful. I took some photojournalism classes in high school and really enjoyed learning the darkroom processing as well, so the interest has always been there. It wasn’t until 2015 I thought to myself, “Why am I not exploring more about photography?” My parents bought me my first camera, a Canon Rebel. I have been addicted to it ever since, slowly adding new lenses and equipment to really create what I am trying to capture.

My photographic style is a mix of documentary, lifestyle, and portrait photography with a goal to capture genuine, authentic emotion and connection. I love to photograph people in their natural state, interacting with the ones they love. I’m inspired by the real-life art of everyday and enjoy telling a story with my images. My heart connects with documentary photography because it captures life without interfering with what is happening in front of you. This transparent approach yields beautiful, real images full of interest.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In every learning experience, there will be difficulties and things that just sometimes do not work out. I have had my fair share of times I felt unprepared or like the situations could be better. One of the biggest challenges I face is the creating and running a website. I am great at the creative side of the business but sometimes I struggle with the “business” side.

Please tell us about Emily Jean Photography.
My goal is to provide the best possible experience. It’s essential to my work that you feel comfortable, confident, and truly at the moment. By creating a warm, relaxed connection with you and your guests, I simultaneously blend in while remaining close by. I am not just your photographer, but a friend.

As a photographer, I tell your story as it unfolds. I encourage authentic moments and give direction when needed. The greatest joy for me is inspiring women to be unapologetically themselves. I love portrait style photography, documentary, boudoir, maternity, and pretty much anything that is me being allowed to be a part of such a special moment with a friend.

The most rewarding thing I have done with my skill is by far volunteering my time to the Fort Worth Humane Society as an Adoption Photographer. This gives me the opportunity to not only do what I love but help animals find good homes.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
This is a hard question. On one hand, I don’t want to be too hard on myself since I am currently in school full time as well as work a full-time job. But I wish when I started using my camera more and wanting to do shoots, I would have invested more time in really learning some things. I know every experience is constantly changing and people are always learning, but I could have done more research and training in the first year I had my camera. I really did not utilize it to it’s fullest extent for a while.
