Meet Emily Stringfellow of Hayden Hair Studio in Flower Mound

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Stringfellow.

Thanks for sharing your story with us, Emily. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My story starts back to when I was in high school when I realized how much I loved all things that had to deal with the beauty scene. I would ALWAYS be doing something crazy to my hair; trying to look like Cassadee Pope when she was on “The Voice” to crazy feathers I saw Kesha wearing. My best friends would also joke with me and say that my bathroom back at my house was the salon. I was always coloring their hair, crazy colors!

But what really made me want to be a hairstylist was a conversation I had with my parents after moving back to Texas. They told me that they saw the passion I had for the beauty industry and that I should really consider pursuing it. It all made sense to me after I thought about it for a little. After all, I was working at the local Sally Beauty Supply!

I registered at The Salon Professional Academy Dallas and began my schooling. I then graduated and began assisting under a great mentor. I ended up working my way up from being an Assistant to Master Stylist at her salon and worked there for three years. During that time, I went to many classes and was taught by many artists.

I have met some amazing people along the way, and I am now continuing my journey at the Hayden Hair Studio in Flower Mound, where I continue to learn and grow as a hairstylist. I have never been as motivated to reach my goals as I am right now, and that’s how I know I made the right choice.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would be lying if I said getting to where I am at now was easy. I have had my fair share of hiccups, but I don’t look at them as struggles. I look at them more as learning lessons that continue to fuel my determination to reach my dreams no matter how hard they are to achieve. I have been in situations where I have really had to watch what I spent to be sure I was able to make rent, to praying that I could make my gas last till next payday. If I had never gone through those tough times, I wouldn’t be as appreciative as I am now for all the blessings this career has given me and the opportunities that continue to come my way. I am very thankful.

Please tell us about Hayden Hair Studio.
I am currently located at the amazing Hayden Hair Studio! I work under some of the most amazing owners who really take great care of me. Our salon brings modern style to this amazing town. I specialize in blonding and extensions, but I don’t shy away from other fun fashion colors that clients throw my way! What I am most proud of is how our salon values education. We are always continuing to learn, and we love helping each other achieve the goals of the client. I think what sets us apart from others is how our salon feels like home within a professional setting. It’s a safe environment that our guests can just relax and unwind. The vibe of the salon is very peaceful and naturalistic. The greenery brings life to the light and airy feel that welcomes everyone through the door.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I have been raised by some amazing people in my life. On my mother’s side of the family, we were all so close that the cousins were all raised like siblings. That leaves a lot of room for amazing childhood memories, but my all around favorite memories revolve around my grandpa. He was one of my many supporters in my life. Any memory with him in it will always be my favorite. When someone has to leave your life, the memories are all you have left. He used to take me everywhere with him, to the local Home Depot, or running to the local McDonalds to buy me a mighty kids meal after school. But my favorite childhood memory was a couple of days before my grandpa was scheduled for a life-threatening surgery. I asked him if he was scared, and he said to me that nothing is scary if you get the chance to love on your family a little longer. I have taken those words with me throughout my life because he was absolutely right. If there is a light in the darkness, the darkness isn’t scary. It’s just a path to get you where you are going…and “that there.” (That’s a phrase that is very special to our family because he ended most sentences with it.)
