Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Young.
Hi Emily, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I was born and raised right here in Arlington! I graduated from Arlington high school where I met my love, John who I have been married to for the last 10 years, and we have two beautiful children together! For all of about 20 years my parents were successful business owners right here in Arlington as well! I spent many years working for my family, learning the ins and outs of running a business—
But for as long as I can remember I have had a true passion for all things beauty, art, and creativity! It has been no surprise I ended up in the beauty industry. In high school, I was presented the opportunity to complete cosmetology school through the AISD and I jumped right in! after graduating, I immediately went to work in a salon to gain experience but I always knew I would someday, work for myself! I worked there for two years before embarking on my first journey to salon ownership! I rented my first salon space right inside of my parents volleyball gym! Honestly, it was the perfect place to build clientele, I worked hard there for 8 years and gained a book of business so large I could not take on all of the clients I was being contacted by! That’s when my now business partner, Abby fell from the sky like a little angel— she and I worked together in harmony for another year before Covid struck! My parents then retired and Abby and I needed to find a place to spread our wings, so with a lot of courage and confidence, and in the mists of a pandemic— we opened our very own salon together, called Roots Beauty Bar! We offer the best of everything from lashes and waxing to airbrush tanning, and hair! We are proud to be the home of 8 amazingly talented women and their small businesses!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t believe anyone’s success comes easily or without a few bumps in the road. I have powered through many adversities including battling a chronic disease during the early years of my career, to now juggling trying to be a good mom, to being a loving wife, to a powerful business owner— I wear many hats & sometimes it’s a struggle. But I will always choose to see my cup half full! I am internally grateful to wear so many hats and to have come out on the other side of some real bumps in the road, it really makes me appreciate the big wins those bumps lead to!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I used to love to cruise with my family when I was a kid! I saw so many beautiful places and made amazing memories! It’s something I enjoy doing with my kids still to this day!
