Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Youree.
Emily, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
From the get go, I’ve been a lover of words. After a stint as an intern in high school at a radio station, I knew some form of career in communications was in my future. College found me pursuing an English degree and landing two intern positions — one of which led to a full-time gig at a publishing house in Nashville, Tennessee.
Since 1999, publishing has been my day job and sometimes my night job. I’ve worked in curriculum, books, magazines, newspapers . . . at traditional publishing houses and as a freelance consultant. In 2013, when the Fort Worth Moms Blog launched I knew, as a new mom, I wanted to be part of it. From a contributing writer to managing editor to owner, the mission of FWMB made my heart sing. Using words to be a champion of motherhood, for motherhood is a high calling I do not take lightly. It is my daily joy to nurture the FWMB to be a beacon of encouragement, community, and resources for parents all over DFW.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There is no such thing as a smooth road. My career path required lots of work, lots of juggling, lots of give and take. As a work-from-home-stay-at-home mom (say that five times fast!), I accept the reality that balance does not exist. One day your family has to give. The next your work gives. Many times, that happens over and over all within one 12-hour period! There is so much freedom is letting go of the facade of balance or smooth sailing. When those bumps in the road come or the way gets chaotic, your heart and mind are not as rattled.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fort Worth Moms Blog – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Fort Worth Moms Blog is an online parenting resource for moms all across Tarrant County — and really the metroplex as a whole. Our readership stretches from Weatherford to Arlington and from Flower Mound to Granbury. FWMB provides at least six original articles per week on the website, fortworth.citymomsblog.com, in addition to hosting events and hosting 20 Neighbor Groups online. The mission of FWMB is to use those platforms to provide local parents with resources, support, community, and encouragement.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
In 2018, FWMB plans to host several new events. Overall, as we look to our five-year anniversary in April 2018, we are stretching and growing and re-evaluating: What has worked thus far? How can we improve? How can we grow? How can we accomplish our mission more efficiently and more thoroughly? We dream of hitting the 1 million page views (for one 12-month period) mark for the 2018 year.
