Meet Eric Ellis of Funk Yo Feelings, 1Nation Under Groove and GSITV in Deep Ellum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Ellis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, like most musicians, I started in the church. I was mimicking the drummers while I sat on the front pew with my two pens on a tambourine. I got older and actually became the drummer for the church. That’s when my brothers George and Gayland mentored and molded me into becoming a solid “pocket drummer”. As I grew, so did my love for music and drumming. I went on to become a student at Antonio Maceo Smith High School, excelling in the band program under the direction of Michael Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix helped me broaden my musical horizon, I went on to graduate and joined the United States Army. After becoming an Iraqi war veteran, I felt my time in the military was served, I decided to come back home and fully pursue a career in my 1st love……music. Now I’m here. lol

Has it been a smooth road?
Has it been a hard road? Hell, could James Brown get down? Lol. Of course, it has. From sleeping in my car to my battle with PTSD, Nothing about this journey has been easy. But obstacles and learning from them are what make us better, yes?

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m currently working on quite a few things. Expanding my brand as a drummer/percussionist is one. I’ve been a drummer all my life and it’s a love that I’m not ready to let go just yet.

A little over a year ago, I started a band called Funk Yo Feelings where I’m not the drummer but the front man. I’ve been a lover of funk for most of my days and I wanted to start a project reflecting such. I consider myself a “son of funk” and want to show the world that Dallas can “funk” with the best of them.

Lastly, I’m very proud to say I’ve ventured into the business owner realm. I’m now part owner in a live streaming and web hosting company called GSI (Get Syndicated Incorporated) TV. Our goal is to provide artists equal access to the resources previously only available by major media companies. We want to put control and profit back in the artist’s hands.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is the perfect city for what I have to offer. The history of music and art in this city is so rich. Especially in Deep Ellum. I would call Deep Ellum good “training ground” for any up and coming artist.
