Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Welch.
Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For all intensive purposes, I’m a husband and father of 2 grown boys. That’s the most important thing.
I started my career in IT and spent nearly two decades building systems, solving problems, and working hard to grow in corporate America. But over time, I felt a pull to do something more personal—something where I could build a business that truly helped people.
That’s when I stepped out on my own and opened a couple of LearningRX franchises, focused on helping individuals—especially kids—who struggled with learning differences. For six years, I got to experience what it felt like to make a real impact in families’ lives while running a business of my own.
Eventually, I sold those locations and returned to corporate IT. But after eight more years, I realized something: working for someone else just wasn’t for me anymore.
I did some serious soul searching and asked myself a simple question: What could I see myself doing for the next 15 years that I would actually enjoy and feel proud of?
The answer kept coming back to the same thing—laundromats.
The more I researched the industry, the more it made sense. It’s essential. It serves the community. And when it’s done right, it can be a clean, reliable, welcoming place that people genuinely appreciate.
So after finding the right opportunity and securing the funding, I took the plunge—and built Emma’s Laundromat with one goal in mind: to create the best laundry experience in the area, with fast machines, a spotless environment, and friendly service that makes customers feel at home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Obstacles or challenges in life or my career – the economy, bad bosses, unrealistic corporate expectations, layoffs.
Regarding the laundromat…since we opened the biggest challenge is getting the word out. Trying to get customers in the door without breaking the marketing bank. The other challenge is finding employees.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Emma’s Laundromat?
Emma’s Laundromat is a modern, family-owned laundromat in Lewisville, Texas, built to make laundry easier, faster, and more enjoyable for our community. We offer self-service laundry with high-capacity commercial washers and fast, high-heat dryers, along with convenient Wash & Fold service for customers who want to save time and skip the hassle. We also offer pickup and drop-off options on select days for added convenience.
What we’re known for is simple: a spotless store, top-tier equipment, and genuinely friendly service. We wanted to create a laundromat that feels safe, clean, bright, and welcoming—whether you’re washing one small load or tackling comforters, bedding, or laundry for a whole household. Our machines are some of the largest and fastest in the area, which means customers can get more done in less time.
What sets us apart is the experience. We’re not trying to be “just another laundromat.” We’re intentional about the details—cleanliness, organization, a calm environment, and staff that actually helps customers instead of just sitting behind a counter. We’re also flexible: customers can pay with quarters, card options, and other convenient payment methods, so everyone can do laundry the way they prefer.
Brand-wise, what we’re most proud of is that Emma’s Laundromat represents more than laundry—it represents service, community, and doing things the right way. We’ve worked hard to build a business people trust and feel good about recommending to friends and family. Our goal is to be the place customers think of first when they search “laundromat near me,” but also the place they choose because they know they’ll be treated well every time they walk in.
We want readers to know that if you’re looking for a clean, efficient laundromat—or you’re busy and want to hand your laundry off to professionals—Emma’s Laundromat is here to help. We’re proud to serve Lewisville and the surrounding area, and we’re committed to making laundry one less thing our customers have to stress about.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Have to be a risk taker. Opening this laundromat means getting into some serious debt and having the faith or confidence that the business will work. If you’re not a risk taker, you probably shouldn’t be a business owner. It’s fun, but it’s constantly on your mind. Hard to turn it off…especially at the beginning when you’re not paying yourself and you’re just trying to make payroll.
