Meet Erica Finney and Dezzyrae Hill of 2 Christian Girls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Finney and Dezzyrae Hill.

Erica and Dezzyrae, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We met in 2007 at a job we both worked at and later reconnected during our college years together. After both landing jobs at the same corporate office, daily meet-ups became necessary to get some laughs in. When our workload would become particularly crazy, Dezzy would say, “Jesus snatch it!” to calm her nerves.

During the summer of 2015, we joked about starting our own business together during a grueling work week. After throwing around random ideas of what we could do, we decided to start a Christian based lifestyle brand.

Immediately Erica started sketching out funny graphics of well-known Christian sayings, not knowing they would end up being used for t-shirts in the first round of merchandise. When thinking about what the name could be for the company, Dezzy said, “Well, we’re two Christian girls. What can come from that?” The rest is history…

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been hard, but it hasn’t been easy. We both work full-time corporate jobs and have other responsibilities, so keeping up with the business and trying to stay relevant is definitely a struggle. Neither of us have started or owned a business before, and we’re learning from our mistakes as we go.

It helped that we both have backgrounds in retail so getting started was fairly simple. It was more learning the ins and out of how to use social media as a business owner and learning about SEO/google relevancy that has been and still is a struggle.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about 2 Christian Girls – what should we know?
We are a faith-based tee shirt and lifestyle brand that aims to inspire and strengthen women through faith, fashion, and humor. We’re proud to be a woman/minority-owned business that can empower other women.

We want people to be able to literally wear declarations of encouragement and faith while still being trendy. We use our social media to try to drive the fashion and humor part of our business by providing looks that we love and captions that make you laugh.

Laughter has been such a key component of our relationship, and we wanted to incorporate that into our business as well. When we write our captions on social media, it’s like we’re letting our followers into a funny conversation we’re having and we want them to feel that same energy.

It’s also a reminder to others that there is an element of humor even in the tough times.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
All of our family and friends are our biggest supporters! They have encouraged, inspired and prayed for us as we live out this vision. They constantly support us by wearing our merchandise, spreading the word and posting on their personal social media to bring in others.

All of the models that we use in our photos are friends who have graciously volunteered their time and clothes to help us get the perfect shot. We wouldn’t be where we are as a business without them in our corner backing us up.
