Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica R. LeCross.
Erica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been in the beauty industry since 2009 but I have always had a passion for creative arts since I was a child. For years, working in the industry was an alternative form for me to make money than pursuing a corporate job. I found myself getting burned out of doing hair so then, I jumped to other ways of making a living that my cosmetology license would allow. I’ve done everything from bridal hair and makeup to lash extensions with much in between. Then, in 2018, I was in a rut again, feeling overworked and depressed. I told myself that I would go back to hair but specializing in curls solely. Little did I know then, that this time would be different than all my years in the industry. With curls, I discovered that I really enjoy working with textured hair but what made the biggest difference was the sense of purpose I feel in helping my clients with their hair. I have come to realize this was what I had been searching for this whole time, I didn’t want to “just make money”, I wanted to make a difference and an impact. I have finally found that perfect mix of being equally challenged and fulfilled. I’m so happy to play my small part in my client’s journey to loving their natural curls!!
Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road at all. I had to go through many transitions to finally be where I am today. I had to start building a clientele from scratch many times and endure financial struggles along the way.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner and operator of Cross & Co. Salon. I specialize in cutting and styling curls/waves to be worn curly (natural). I am certified in a couple of cutting techniques, two of which are Deva and Rezo. These are the most popular dry cutting techniques for curls. I am most proud of my company being nominated for 2019 Favorite Hair Salon for Addison Magazine. Results will be announced November 2019, here’s to hoping my business wins the category! What I feel sets me apart from others is my honest desire to help the curl community. My clients know that I am 110% invested in providing not only a curly cut but in educating them on how to care and maintain their curls at home.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I do feel our city is a good place for a business like mine. The DFW population is growing more and more every year. Dallas is a great place to start out for sure. I feel clients are looking for new stylists having just moved here and some of the current Dallasites are specifically looking for those that can work with their natural texture.
