Meet Erick Willis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick Willis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started singing in church at the age of five and subsequently began voice lessons and began performing at the local and regional talent and opry shows into my early teens. Sports became a big part of my life until I was re-intrigued by a high school guitar class. I started playing again my first couple years of college at local open mic nights and it grew from there as I started landing some paying gigs. I released my first EP in 2012 and was totally hooked not only with playing but also the recording process. Since then, I’ve released a total of three EP’s and two Full-length albums. The business and numbers have continued to grow each year and we are now playing an average of 150 shows a year.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely had its ups and downs. The music business has lots of downfalls and with the new age of digital listening, it is a road that everyone is figuring out how to navigate. While this business can be very inconsistent, the rewards and satisfaction that creation brings definitely outweigh the struggle.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I am a singer/songwriter. I write songs and travel the U.S. both solo and with my band to spread my music to as many people as possible. I’m proud of the organic growth I’ve watched over the years. The ultimate goal for my music to reach and touch as many people as possible and I’ve watched the numbers double every year since my first release.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Some of my fondest childhood memories were from performing in church. I watched my grandmother sing in the choir since I could remember and I loved that connection with her.
