Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Gomez.
Erik, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am an immigrant, illustrator, designer, and printmaker that is fairly new to sharing my artwork, it has only been a little over a year since I started. I first began sharing small doodles that were inspired by “dichos” or sayings that are commonly shared in my culture, family, and friends. I was not at a point where I took my artwork very seriously but I got such a positive response from others who had ties to these sayings that they constantly heard growing up hispanic, that I was motivated to continue creating. Now, I find myself not only creating artwork but also apparel, accessories and prints that make up my brand Galleria de Gomez.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are times where it is easy, and the universe seems to give me the motivation, inspiration and time I need to create but this is not always the case. There are days, even weeks where it’s hard to complete anything but I have found that pushing myself through these times always proves to be worthwhile.
Tell us more about your art.
My brand is Galleria de Gomez, and it’s various products that I print or create with my illustrations inspired by “dichos”. I like to create a wide variety of products from apparel, totes, prints and even lighters! There’s something so satisfying about creating a product that I make for, really, myself and finding that others instantly connect with and love too.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have never thought about luck when it comes to myself, I find it’s better to take things as they are and decide what you can and want to do with the cards you’ve been dealt.
