Meet Erika Pitstick of Price Right Tree Service in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Pitstick.

Erika, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
In 2004, my husband Price started mowing yards with two of his high school friends. When a mentor of theirs named Garrett Dean gave them 30 of his clients, this gave them the motivation to continue growing their business. After graduation, Price’s two buddies left for college and the Marines so Price decided to keep on the clients and run the business while he went to EMT school. From mowing lawns to landscaping, Price quickly saw a need in tree trimming and thought he would seek this field out. Price found a passion in this career and decided to dive in…

After EMT school my husband had a life changing experience where he surrendered himself to Jesus. He felt God calling him into ministry. A little over a year he took a full time ministry position and continued to do tree work on the side. During this time he met me while traveling in Israel and we got married in 2013. During that time period Price came out of full time ministry and went on into full time tree & landscaping work. We were pregnant with our first child and my way of contributing to the business was by helping with bookkeeping and marketing from our home based office. Since then we have grown to 6 employees and have moved to an office location in Arlington. We specialize on residential & commercial properties, but are also moving towards government contracting. We are blessed that most of our work comes in through referrals ~ Our 5/5 star customer ratings speak for themselves. We are a hard working company who is committed in giving our 100% effort and professionalism to our customers. Currently, we are growing in our installation of Christmas lights as well as our quality firewood that is for sale.

Has it been a smooth road?
No business is ever smooth! We have definitely had some struggles, but its part of being business owners so we take the experience and learn from it. Right after Price and I got married we found out we were pregnant. Starting a marriage with someone is challenging enough, but now with a baby on the way we knew we needed to get prepared for some bumpy roads. Our business was only part time back then so the struggles were mainly if we should go full time and if so how do we hire trustworthy hard working people? We knew we had to interview a lot of people and try them out in different job sites before hiring~ We knew the making of our team was crucial – searching for the right people was a priority.

As newlyweds and first time parents to a baby boy ~ we bought our first home. We had our own personal expenses, but add the business expenses and that’s a whole different story. There is a misunderstanding that just because you are a business owner …”you have money”. In our case, we were just starting out and not just with our business but with a family. Moreover, as you research about the tree industry you will realize that buying the right equipment is not easy and that was another struggle we faced. In that time period it was hard for me to swallow $25,000 for a piece of equipment plus other expenses that businesses have. My struggle in that moment was to stay in the comfort zone and wait to spend that kind of money. Price on the other hand, he is a risk taker with finances and he is also a very meticulous researcher. He believed that we needed the best team AND the best equipment. I trusted his leadership and I have seen the reward of our investment in good reliable equipment.

Challenges always come, but the key is how do you handle them?

My husband and I try to see the challenges as an opportunity to improve and make our business foundation stronger!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
*Tree & Limb Removal

Includes removing dead, dying, hazardous, storm damaged, or improperly located trees or limbs from your property. Our crew uses only the highest quality equipment, as well as using a rope and saddle method of climbing. All the wood and debris is hauled away using a chipper and flatbed unless the homeowners request to keep the wood for firewood.

*Tree Trimming

Includes using ANSI standard methods to properly prune your trees. There are 4 main types of tree pruning. Crown cleaning is pruning out the deadwood or diseased limbs in the canopy. Crown thinning is lightly pruning out the interior limbs, crossing and rubbing limbs in the canopy. This is usually done to increase light in the yard for grass, and help wind to better flow through the canopy to decrease the chances of storm damage. Crown Raising is elevating the low limbs to provide clearance and increase visibility. Crown Reduction is lightly thinning out the top of a tree to reduce the overall height and size of the top of the canopy. This does not include topping.

* Clean Up & Landscaping

Landscape design is another service we provide at Price Right. We do hardscape and landscape installments. We also will provide our own organic mulch for our customers.

* Custom Christmas Lights Installation
In our package we provide Christmas lights of your choice, install them and take them down and package them away when you are ready for them to be stored!
