Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Smith.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m a Texas girl, born and bred, and have lived in the Plano area for the past 10 years. I’m a wife, mother and zookeeper to my wonderful husband and three daughters. I’m a planner and an organizational wizard, and I try my best to keep our crazy crew on their toes while juggling a full time photography schedule! Cheers to all my working mommas out there – I’m right there with you!
I was born with photography in my blood, and it has a passion of mine since I took my first photo as a little girl. My family has always played the role of guinea pigs, and if you guessed that our home is riddled with framed family portraits, school pictures, and candid shots through the years, you’d be right. It wasn’t until later in life that I was given the opportunity to turn my passion into a career – and thus, E4C Photography was born. Since then, it’s been a wild ride and an amazing journey. Getting to meet the incredible people of the Dallas area is the best part of what I do.
Has it been a smooth road?
To say that growing my business has come with challenges is an understatement! I made the difficult decision to transition from the corporate world to photography full time, and it’s truly been full of ups and downs ever since. From building my clientele, to learning new techniques, finding my place in a competitive market was tough, and it took a lot of soul searching to figure out what kind of photographer I wanted to be. At the end of the day, however, my passion is what drives me.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
E4C Photography started out as a newborn photography business. People call me the ‘baby whisperer’, and babies were the most logical place for me to begin my career in photography. As my business has grown, so have my clientele! I still do newborn photography, but I’ve also added all types of milestone photography to my repertoire – family, graduation, etc. I’ve done it all! Recently I’ve found a new passion in boudoir photography. It’s been really inspiring to help women find their self-confidence through photography, and I love bringing couples together in that way.
Though I work in all areas of family photography, I think what sets me apart is my love of connection. Creating relationships with my clients is, hands down, my favorite part of what I do. Watching a couple grow from their engagement shoot to having a family, and capturing all the moments along the way is a magical experience for me. Many of my clients have become great friends of mine, and I think that’s the true beauty of my work.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Living in Plano for the past 10 years, I’ve watched our little Texas town grow into a big city. Everywhere I look, there are new neighborhoods, new schools, and new families to meet – which is why I think our city is such a great place for a photography business to thrive. While there are tons of photographers in the DFW area, there’s room for all of us to grow our businesses and find success in such a growing and expanding community.
