Meet Erin Walsh in East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Walsh.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am originally from Ohio and went to school there to study design. After graduating, I moved to Texas to work as an apparel designer at a large retail company here in Dallas. A few years later, I decided to take a big leap and left my position to pursue freelance work. I connected with a photography agency here in town and started working as an assistant stylist. At the same time, I took an internship with a local floral design business and also began creating custom pieces of artwork.

These days, I’m usually working behind the scenes on a photo shoot or creating a new piece of art. My main source of inspiration is nature, largely influenced by the time I have spent working with florals. You can find some of my murals around Dallas, including in Kookie Haven Bakery in Oak Cliff and Mane Salon in Lakewood.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish there was some sort of official guidebook to being a freelancer as it can be a very rocky road sometimes. The biggest challenge I have found is the trade of job security and financial stability for the freedom and flexibility that comes with self employment. And that often, you can find yourself with too much on your plate while simultaneously feeling uncertain of your next move.

I think it is key to start with a good safety net and a clear idea of the direction you want to take your business. I’ve had to learn to take the time to understand my mission. Once, I did it became easier to know which opportunities I should accept and which ones did not align with my objectives.

Erin Lee Walsh – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I offer services as a prop stylist and as an artist. I create nature inspired custom art ranging from small paintings to large scale murals by order.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My favorite moments are when I see my work shared. Whether it is printed in a publication or featured in someone’s portrait on Instagram, it is incredibly fulfilling seeing that others are appreciating and maybe even finding joy in something that I created.
