Today we’d like to introduce you to Eugenie Nforbinson.

Eugenie nforbinson

Hi Eugenie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey in the world of singing and dancing at the tender age of six. I vividly recall those early days when my sister Carene pushed my cousin Louisa and I to perfect choreographies, often to the beats of Britney Spears echoing in our garage. Little did I know then that these moments would shape the person I am today, igniting a deep passion for music within me.

My story took a significant turn when I moved to Dallas in 2007 after 1 year living in Rhode Island with my father, mother, and siblings. It was when I moved to Dallas that I had my first had a taste of performing. My first performance was at a convention organized leaders who were from my village called Bafut. This event occurs annually. This event marked the beginning of my dedication to dance. My sister, crystal who is the oldest, recognized my fervor, supported me by providing resources, I remember when she purchased some Janet Jackson’s DVDs, knowing Ms. Jackson to be a major source of inspiration. Studying her moves, I crafted my own choreographies, emulating her style and honing my skills.

Multiple performances followed, but I yearned for more. Determined to pursue my dreams, I made the bold decision to move to LA in 2017. There, I delved deeper into my craft, attending dance classes and appearing in music videos with celebrities like Russ, Vic Mennsa, Afro B, Flavour, and many more as a dancer. I started teaching at various events; social media became my stage, where I showcased my talent, steadily building a following and making a name for myself.

As time passed, I embraced new challenges. Transitioning into modeling, a long-held interest, allowed me to diversify my portfolio on my platform. I showcased my versatility, demonstrating that my talents extended beyond singing and dancing. Now, I’m amalgamating these facets of my creativity, working on my upcoming EP while releasing singles to reconnect with my audience.

My journey hasn’t been without its trials. The journey so far has been teaching me the values of perseverance and resilience. With my mother’s unwavering support. Though my father was a loving presence, his absence due to moving back to Cameroon in 2008 caused a strain in his marriage with my mom. Years later, he remarried, which meant my mother bore the weight of responsibility as she stayed back with us in the States to ensure our stability and eventual success.

While I’ve spent most of my life in the States, my roots trace back to Cameroon. Home holds a special place in my heart, and I strive to create music that resonates both locally and internationally. With each endeavor, I pay homage to my upbringing, infusing my art with authenticity and soul.

As I embark on this new chapter, I’m grateful for the journey thus far and excited for what lies ahead. My experiences have shaped me into the artist I am today, and I’m eager to share my story through music that touches hearts and transcends boundaries.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve faced my fair share of challenges, particularly when I made the move to LA in 2017. Initially, settling in wasn’t easy. I had to share living spaces with various roommates, though one of them, whom I’m still friends with today, played a pivotal role in encouraging me to pursue my dreams. She recognized my talent and offered guidance on navigating the city’s resources. However, despite my efforts to put myself out there and socialize, success didn’t come swiftly. LA can be a tough place, with fierce competition and difficulty finding genuine connections amidst the hustle.

There were times I felt adrift, losing sight of my authentic self amid the pressure to conform to industry standards. It became apparent that I needed to step back and reassess my path. Taking classes and seeking spiritual guidance during the pandemic-induced break allowed me to realign my priorities and reconnect with myself. The loss of my father in 2020, amidst the challenges of the pandemic, was a profound blow. His unwavering support and belief in my abilities served as a constant source of motivation. His passing gave me a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper appreciation for the journey ahead.

Despite the setbacks and heartaches, I remain resilient. My experiences, though arduous, have shaped me into the person I am today. Each hurdle has propelled me forward, reinforcing my determination to pursue my passions. While my future may include a return to LA, for now, I focus on self-growth and preparation, knowing that talent transcends location. I’m confident that when the time is right, the right opportunities will present themselves. Ultimately, nothing can deter me from chasing my dreams.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I’m currently engrossed in reading “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron. This book is a treasure trove of wisdom, guiding readers on a journey to discover their true selves, boost confidence, handle criticism in the industry, and maintain spiritual balance. It’s been a profound experience diving into its pages, and I’m particularly enjoying the audible version, which I find incredibly convenient.

In addition to reading, I’m an avid listener of podcasts. One of my favorites is “Hardly Initiated,” hosted by two insightful men who invite various leaders, including life coaches and relationship experts, to share their perspectives on diverse topics like marriage, sexuality, and personal growth. These discussions delve into areas often overlooked outside of academic settings, providing valuable insights into aspects of life we seldom discuss openly.
