Meet Evelyn Murphy of Evelyn Murphy Fashion & Portrait Photography in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Murphy.

Evelyn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always loved photography, and I think I was about 8 when I got my first camera – a Polaroid point and shoot. I was so excited about that! I played around with that and my Dad’s Kodak for years. I dabbled on and off through high school and college, but it really wasn’t until about 10 years ago that I got to a point where I took things more seriously, and got equipment that let me do more. I found that I had more time to explore things and learn new skills and techniques and that is when I fell in love with fashion and beauty photography.

I have spent the last six or seven years developing my skill set to produce the work that I do now which is a combination of clean beauty, fine art, fashion and client head shots.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always struggles along the way. With respect to this being a full time career that is a struggle. I am still only able to do this part time, but someday I hope to be able to make it a full time job.

Evelyn Murphy Fashion & Portrait Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I primarily specialize in fashion and beauty portraits. I also have branched into fine art photography. I am known mostly for my beauty work though. I think what sets me apart is that my work is not like what you typically see in the Dallas market – which is very commercial. I am not, which kind of goes back to the struggles I face, I don’t fit the mold locally, and most of my audience is North East, West Coast and International when I look at the demographics.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
For me, it is just being happy with the product I produce and having a happy client. I am my own worst critic. I am not looking for lots of awards, etc., and don’t look for lots of validation that way. If the people that have hired me are happy and the photos turn out the way I wanted them to, then I feel that I have been successful.
