Today we’d like to introduce you to Evelyn Robledo.
Evelyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Most of my adolescent years I spent in a divided household. My parents split when I was 14- right before my quinceanera (which is Mexican tradition to celebrate the transition from “girl to woman”). So this was a real big deal. I spent that year wondering what I did wrong as a child. And the transition was very difficult to grasp. I didn’t understand the “why” behind it all and to be honest this question is sometimes still subconsciously there.
I grew up being very controlling and craving the need for structure-which I later discovered was part of my childhood trauma.
Fast forward to now, I am a bilingual therapist working with adolescents and young adults- coping with everyday life stressors. I recently opened my own private practice to serve the youth in our community. My goal is to eliminate barriers (whether that’s financial or challenging the stigma that at times precedes mental health). But also, and most importantly, to help validate many of the emotions many adolescents and young adults face in our society and to help them find their inner strengths so they are able to be resilient in times of crisis.
Has it been a smooth road?
Self-doubt has always been my biggest challenge. Like many of us, we are our own biggest obstacles. Can we acknowledge what we are feeling and what is happening inside of us and do we have the resources to challenge some of these beliefs. Most of the time, the answer is, yes. We can do it and we will do it.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Sound Mind Therapy PLLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I own a very small private practice in the Farmers Branch/Dallas area. I work hard to offer rates that make seeking mental health possible. I offer appointments on the weekends and in the evenings to accommodate work schedules.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love my city because there is so much opportunity here! I don’t just mean that is terms of work either. There are so many family oriented like activities and you can guarantee there is “A Taste of….something” for every holiday.
