Meet Faiz Nazary of Contour Roofing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Faiz Nazary.

Hi Faiz, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had been working 3 jobs to support my family after my dad passed away. It was tough and stressful at times. One of the companies found out I was working for other companies and didn’t like that, so they snitched on me. Once it was revealed I was fired from all 3 companies, it all happened while I was working remotely in Mexico. Great, I am jobless now, so I decided to give myself a little vacation while in Mexico. Then, I had to head back to Dallas to help my mom move to a newer place. I had her live with me since I didn’t want her alone after my dad passed away. I had always wanted to try sales, but a challenging type is door-to-door sales. I saw a cousin of mine doing roofing sales, and it seem lucrative but challenging at the same time. I got a job at a large roofing company, and then I got another job 2 months later to support myself and my family since roofing sales is like being a realtor; I am only paid when I sell. Eventually, I was selling homes, and it was usually of foreign-background homeowners, since we understood each other better so that is who I started targeting only. Fast forward to 2024, I decided to start my own roofing company after learning the in-and-outs of the business and how to keep my overhead expenses low (I drive a Subaru Outback rather than a $100k lifted truck like other roofers, which you don’t need in sales). Now, I target SMU alumni (my alma mater) and foreign-background homeowners, which I am happy to say works well for me.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not; I am not relying on anyone else to get things moving. When I was working for a large roofing company, there were people there to help, but now it’s all me. At the same time, it’s fun because I love a challenge. I am always testing new marketing strategies to see what works and not.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
We are a roofing company based out of Dallas, targeting SMU alumni and foreign-background homeowners. We specialize in just roofing and exterior work to get the house back to its original condition and are known for quality work. What sets us apart from others is being great at communicating with the homeowner and clean-up during installation. I personally am cleaning up nails throughout the day and the next day, so no feet, paws, or tires are hurt in the process.

I love giving back so 5% of profit from each contract is donated to charity.
