Meet Felicia Guimont of Southern Best Catering/OMG Cakes in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Felicia Guimont.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Felicia. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started baking as a young teen but really started learning and watching my Aunt as a youth. My Mom would send us to Mississippi for the summer vacations and my Aunt lived in the kitchen. He made pies and cakes, it’s so amazing, we would even hide them in the room we slept in. I never forgot the smell of freshly baked teacakes that were hand baked and pressed gently so that there would be a simple rise and chewing experience! During my teen years, I was the one who made the apple pies, helped Mom layer the banana pudding and cut her crust for the amazing peach cobbler she made. We attended conferences where members of local churches would bring select food items. My task was Lasagna and Chicken salad. My journey of cooking did not stop there. Potlucks at work, preparing baked good and meals here and there until finally, I started purchasing equipment, catering here and there and everywhere! I claimed that my catering passion would echo great results in every area of the DFW area. When my time ended in the corporate world, it began a new journey that God has control over! I have clients that have been with me from the beginning until now! I will not give up until I impact homes and hearts from city to city, state to state and beyond! My goal is to start a Train Them Up Project to teach and empower young people! My life would have been on a different path if there was someone who would have helped me develop my gift at an early age. I will help them with great communication skills and customer service. Most youths don’t understand even food portion controls. I plan to help them and save some lives!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This journey has been tough because where people thought I would not amount to anything, I refuse to let their voices plague me! When people find out I am so nice, a few will attempt to use me in a bad way. I always pray that I have clients that will appreciate my gifts… I have experienced false promises, a few unnecessary chargebacks and non-payments and this almost ruined me but I am pressing forward! I exhausted everything I have to brand myself and not be a failure. No matter what, I can’t and won’t give up! I am pushing without fear! No one understands how it feels to almost lose everything but hold your head up like you lost nothing! I am daily attempting to be better than I was yesterday!

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner of Southern Best Catering/OMG Cakes which is a full-service catering service. I make customized cheesecakes and the favorite of many is the praline cheesecake and the Nana Puddin Cheesecake. I am proud of the fact that when someone attempts duplication, mind-blowing flavors are birthed to give my clients the OMG Experience. The flavors of many items I prepare leave a heart lasting experience. I have been blessed to watch the expressions on the faces of many who take that 1st bite and say OMG… I then say, The Experience is REAL! I am not competitive in this industry, I want to see many grow and challenge the youth to tap into their God-given talents at an early age. I won’t focus on anything but helping and empowering others! I have no problem patronizing other business and often call on Bakers to add them to projects. I love feeding the homeless and giving food to organizations who have the same heartbeat!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I loved fashion and sewing. I remember not being able to afford the outfits for my Barbie doll, so I would cut up sheets or anything. Barbie had hand sewn stylish gear! I was good at what I put my mind to. No matter how long it took me to do a project, I stuck to it until it was complete.
