Today we’d like to introduce you to Fernanda Garcia.
Fernanda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I fell in love with photography back in high school, I begged my parents for a camera and finally they gifted me a small point and shoot camera, I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I started off shooting a more artistic style of photography with different concepts if you scroll back into my Instagram to my very first post from back in 2014 you will see what I mean. Through High school that would be what I would post but I would also just carry my camera around with me everywhere taking photos of my friends and family.
After High School, I kind of lost touch of myself and had a little baby boy, once I held him I knew I would have to document his life and dusted off the dust on my camera and it came to life again. I started taking photos of him every single day.
I upgraded my camera and learned as much as we could and now I thrive to capture the beauty in the souls that look at my lens.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My photography has been anything but smooth, not physically but definitely mentally. There has been very many times where I put down my camera down for weeks because I would try and compare myself with others, there was also the obstacle of time. As a full-time employee, student and mom, a lot of times I would feel burned out.
I kept going back though because of how much I loved it and continued to push myself until I eventually found my own style that I loved very much enough to not let any mental blocks stop me from doing what I loved.
Fg Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Photographer. I specialize in capturing smiles, families, and memories. I am a very awkward person which plays in my favor when it comes to photography because I know how to make someone relax which creates very candid moments that people end up loving, which is what I am most proud of.
One thing that I also love is that I do not call the people that book me my clients, I call them my friends! Whenever I am shooting we are having fun and we become good friends! Some of my best friendships are from people who have booked me in the past! And I could not be more thankful.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment, was when I finished taking photos for a really cute couple and they told me that they are usually really shy and awkward but they had a blast shooting with me that they were not at that point, That warmed my heart and I strive to make everyone feel the same way.
