Meet Filip Keuppens of The Pickle Juice Company in Mesquite

Today we’d like to introduce you to Filip Keuppens.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Filip. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
The Pickle Juice company was founded in 2001 after being inspired by the Sept. 3, 2000 Cowboys vs. Eagles game, which has been recorder as the hottest NFL game on record. The 109 degree temperatures were causing many of the Cowboys to cramp up, the Eagles, however, had much fewer problems. After the game it was revealed that the Eagles had been consuming pickle brine to fight cramping. Shortly thereafter, the original founder of the company, who has since left to pursue other interests, with the aid of a local pickle company, began some rudimentary testing to discover that it was actually the vinegar rather than the salt that helped stop the cramping. This discovery led the company to begin bottling the first formula. In 2010, a research team out of BYU led by Dr. Kevin Miller discovered that muscle cramps are a neurological phenomenon rather than a physiological one. This science allowed the Pickle Juice Company to refine the ingredients in order to achieve a more functional, purpose built product. Finally, in 2015, The company opened its own manufacturing facility, reformulated again to become 100% natural and has enjoyed remarkable growth since.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has been relatively smooth since our brand relaunch in 2015. Prior to that, the business was more opportunistic in nature.

The Pickle Juice Company – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Pickle Juice Company manufactures a product that does three things that no other product on the market can claim. It’s the only 100% natural, purpose built Isotonic Sports drink on the market. It’s the only product on the market that is scientifically proven to stop and prevent muscle cramps while aiding hydration. It contains 10X the electrolytes of common sports drinks with no sugar, no caffeine, no artificial ingredients. It’s important to note that this product has nothing to do with Pickles. The functional ingredients cause the product to share a taste that is similar, though much less overwhelming, to Pickles. Pickle Juice is actually a trademarked name much like Band-Aid, Xerox or Kleenex.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me if defined by the growth and profitability of the company. It’s the most clear and consistent yard stick.

Pricing:

  • Pickle Juice can be purchased in just about any grocery store for approximately $1.99.
