Today we’d like to introduce you to Fiona Hoey.
Fiona, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born and raised in Boston, MA and as a young girl, I was always playing dress-up & makeup with my friends. I knew early on that becoming a hairstylist would be in my future. When I graduated high school, I enrolled in Cosmetology school back in 2007.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For me, it was not always an easy road. My family had moved to Texas six years ago and I stayed in Boston because I was in a relationship. Unfortunately, it was not a healthy one. I decided to start over in Texas with Family support. I feel so blessed to have this opportunity to run my own business and be independent.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
What I love more than anything is to see the smile on my client’s faces. When they see the after look and tell me, they want a hug or maybe change their plans and go out. I love building other women up. I Specialize in Blondes, Fashion Color, Smoothing Treatments, Hair Extensions, Styling & Makeup. I believe in quality over quantity, so I usually do a few colors a day to put my focus on each client in my chair. Also, consultations are highly recommended and complimentary.
What were you like growing up?
I had such a fun childhood growing up. As the oldest of three children, my mother had three kids in three years, so we were all close. We were always all so busy playing sports and for me, I was always in art classes and music classes I started singing in the church choir in elementary school and then moved to play the cello for over ten years and continued my singing in high school. I was friends with everyone and pretty outgoing. For dances, I did my friend’s hair and makeup and they always knew I would be glamming one day. Years later and I still have a joy for what I do and look forward to it every day.
