Meet Ana Mayhue of Flex Smart Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Mayhue.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve owned, ridden, and competed on horses most of my life. When it was time to retire my first pony, we found an overweight, wild eyed Morgan named Smarty who was previously mistreated. I put one test ride on him that was full of rearing, bolting, weaving, and a general hate of being around humans. Absolutely had to have him. I knew he was a diamond in the rough who needed help. He was very wild, and had injured me countless times. A couple months in, I started researching muscular problems. He had fist sized knots with radiating heat from his ears to his back from poor fitting equipment in the past. I started some ‘at home massage’ that provided results not only while we competed, but also in our relationship and his attitude towards others. I decided to get a professional massage therapist to work on him along with getting therapy for myself. In a short time we both felt better, our relationship got stronger, and we are now inseparable. I then knew what I wanted to do. Help people and their horses of all riding styles and levels bring out their full potential and personalities through massage. Because Smarty is responsible for my career choice, I decided to honor him in the name.

Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest obstacle has been getting the word out about my business, being based in a small town it’s been difficult to span out farther and build a clientele through DFW area. Word of mouth is the best advertising!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Flex Smart Therapy story. Tell us more about the business.
Flex Smart Therapy provides on-site massage therapy, specializing in horses and their riders, though everyone including canines and animal free houses are welcome! We take pride in the science behind massage to give comfortable and effective sessions, as well as other holistic approaches such as aromatherapy in the comfort of your home, office, or barn! Being licensed in massage therapy and certified in equine sports massage we offer a unique convenient service that tailors to each person and their equine partnership.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I’m hoping to expand my clientele enough to where I can open my own office so I can have clients of two legged and four-legged variety come in while still doing some house calls.
