Fred, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
One of my earliest memories of my father is when he shared the magic of the Polaroid Land Camera with me. I remember standing proudly giving him my cheesiest “Cheese” and then watching in horror as I witnessed him ripping something out of the side of the camera body.
What I experienced in the next few moments of flapping and fanning forever changed my life. I saw the magic of the photo developing right before my eyes and was immediately fascinated with the moment that was captured in time.
At every stage in my life I can recall having a camera in hand or close by. My parents never hindered my access to a camera, film, or processing.
Learning how to shoot in the film days required a hefty investment in film, processing, and prints. After many years developing my skills I launched my business in the Tampa, FL area. Ten years later we moved to McKinney TX and I faced the obstacle of having to restart my business and firmly establish my specialty.
I have grown my business in North Dallas by:
1. Investing time: I spend time networking and connecting with other businesses in the area because I value the time needed to build relationships, establish trust, and have the opportunity to provide quality service.
2. Utilizing local small businesses: After we arrived in McKinney we chose small business owners to provide the goods and services that we needed rather than choosing large national chains.
3. Promoting other business brands: Rather than focusing on how much money I might earn, I focus on how FREDSHOTS Photography can best partner with others to promote their businesses.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles was learning that I needed to specialize. By choosing to specialize in corporate headshots I was able to better focus my marketing efforts. Another struggle was making the decision to move from part-time to full-time photography. Making that move required a more substantial investment.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Fredshots Photography – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
These guiding principles can be seen in how I operate:
1. I drive the miles – Fredshots Photography is a completely mobile operation. I bring the cameras, backdrops, and lighting to your location.
2. I capture the styles – There are no rules for the “perfect” photo. I request input and feedback from each client while in session to make sure that you are pleased with the results WHILE the photos are being captured.
3. I share the smiles – Life is too short to not have fun! Professional grade does not mean spontaneous smiles and a relaxed environment are forbidden.
4. You take the files – My standard rates include the photo session, post production computer processing, AND the full size/full resolution digital image files free from my branding, logos, copyright, per use fees, or royalties.
I specialize in corporate headshot photography. Anyone can have a headshot but what we offer is the FREDSHOTS experience.
I’m known as the Asian Sensation in the networking world and for rapping my 30 second commercials to music with headshots displaying that are timed with the music,
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Traveling to major metropolitan areas across the United States in order to offer my services like I’ve done in Houston, Atlanta, Tampa, and Portland. I am currently also working to expand into more on site photography for major corporations in the DFW area.
