Meet Gentle Man Goo Goo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gentle Man Goo Goo.

Hi Gentle Man, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I grew up in the suburbs of Las Vegas, Nevada. I come from a large family of 9 kids, so music played around the house constantly. My mom was into Rock/Heavy Metal, and my dad was more into funk/disco. One of my favorite memories growing up was going to see “Kool and the Gang” with my family. I believe that is where my love for Funk/Soul music came from. Also, during my formative years, my siblings & I would put together little shows, choreography, & film re-enactments of our favorite movies. I believe that is where my passion for Pop Music, Boy Bands & Dance originated from. Shortly after finishing High School, I moved to New York City to pursue a career on Broadway. I was auditioning, meeting Casting Directors during the day, & writing & recording music at night. In 2014, I started posting it on SoundCloud, which garnered some attention from the NYC music scene. However, I took a hiatus from music to pursue Film & Television during the year of 2016. During this year, I landed a National TV spot for the candy “Swedish Fish”, which ultimately enabled me to focus more on my songwriting process. My first official release, entitled “Flesh”, was released in 2016. I fell into a deep depression & only recently started releasing music again. It wasn’t until the pandemic happened that I decided to get back into the Studio & I ended up releasing 3 mixtapes entitled “BODY”, “MIND”, & “SPIRITS” which are doing really well. Recently, “DANCE!” was nominated for “Best Pop Music Video” at the Native American Music Awards. I am excited to see what 2022 has in store for Gentle Man Goo Goo + The Wilson Haus.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’d say the biggest lesson I’ve learned so far is that, everybody pays their dues in some form or another. No one should ever expect anyone to show up & go, “let’s write that hit song & make you a star!”…. And, if they do, it’s probably a scam… To become great at anything requires practice, & patience. The smoothest part for me, as a sometimes rigidly self-sufficient artist, has been producing music. I have been learning how to produce, mix, & master music since I was 12. This makes the process easier for me, since I oversee & can control pieces throughout the entire process! Other than performing, the biggest “lesson” for me was learning how to balance mental health, work, & the creative process. In the past, I would base a lot of my self-worth on what I put out into the world… Recently, I am learning how to allow myself to relax, have fun, & enjoy the process. Doing so has allowed me to create more art than ever before.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have recently started releasing music under the stage name “Gentle Man Goo Goo + The Wilson Haus”. I film, direct, & edit all of my own music videos. Furthermore, I am primarily a Crypto-Musician on the Opensea platform. I recently released 2 NFT series entitled the “4,444 DANCE!” & “1111 BODY” Collections. Both collections include lifetime utility like 20% Spotify Royalties, & Re-usable concert tickets to all Token holders! I think being a self-sufficient artist, owning my own label, & being mainly in the “Crypto-art scene”, sets me apart from most “TikTok era” artists today.

What do you think about luck?
I do not believe in luck. I believe that hard work & perseverance are the only key factors in a person’s success. If you can believe, you can achieve. If you want to be a Star, you have to look at yourself in the mirror every day & tell yourself, “You are a star!” & believe with all your heart that it will come true!
