Today we’d like to introduce you to George and Travis Baker.
Thanks for sharing your story with us George and Travis. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Started All Star Corrugated with 2 partners in 1983. We began by making boxes for a few customers and quickly realized that we needed to continue to look for customers in the DFW market. We found a part of the metroplex that was under-served in their need for custom boxes. We have continued to help manufacturers in the metroplex find a solution for their packaging frustrations.
Has it been a smooth road?
There are always struggles in starting a business. Finding customers that fit our model of “Service First” in an increasingly commoditized market has been something that has its up and downs. The metroplex has many packaging suppliers, all trying to distinguish themselves from the other. We have taken the road of not making the cheapest box possible. Rather, offering a competitive product with the service that companies are needing to make sure their production lines continue to run smoothly.
So, let’s switch gears a bit and go into the All Star Corrugated story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in custom corrugated boxes. There are many companies that want to buy the cheapest box possible. While we can service those customers. Our best fit as a supplier is a relationship of service. We prefer to have a discussion of “why this box.” Boxes affect a lot in the manufacturing process and many people only think about those issues when an issue arises or at the end of the manufacturing process. The best relationships come from those that start with how you are going to package your product when you finish producing it. From, ease of use, shelf ready graphics and on time delivery to making sure that we use the right material when producing the box.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We see a big move to companies wanting to continue their branding onto their packaging. With direct to consumer becoming a bigger player in how consumers buy. Being able to create an experience for customers when they receive their purchases is a growing trend.
