Meet George Boyd of Cut The Pod

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Boyd

Hi George, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was visiting my sister in LA, just after graduating with a film degree from UNT. While there, I saw a one-day video editor job posted on Craigslist and thought, “Why not?” As the trip wound down, I sat in the LAX terminal, waiting for my flight back to Dallas, when my phone rang. It was the Craigslist ad.

“Can you come in on Thursday?”

I said yes… then flew home, impulsively. As soon as I landed, I bought a one-way ticket back to LA.

Two days later, I was editing Disneyland b-roll in the guest bedroom of a duplex in LA.

That one-day gig turned into a 10-year career as a video editor, working with Disney, CNN, Nickelodeon, Meta, the NFL, Anthony Bourdain, and more. Along the way, I built incredible relationships, learned hundreds of hard lessons, and was lucky enough to have an amazing mentor.

It was the ultimate crash course in post-production.

Nine years after answering that Craigslist ad, I found myself sitting with Disney executives, working with Hollywood agencies, suggesting movements for Mickey Mouse’s animations, and watching commercials I’d edited play during the Super Bowl.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every project I worked on brought its own unique challenges, often from the footage, gaps in the story, the people involved, or, frequently, the technology. But these obstacles shaped me into a confident problem solver, a skill I consider the most powerful one in my toolkit to this day.

In every story, there’s always an obstacle to overcome, and as the editor, you’re the arbiter of the footage; problem solving becomes a daily task. Creative directors rely on you to find solutions that align with their vision, making you the central hub for various departments, from creatives to legal to executives.

Learning to navigate all the personalities and perspectives was, in itself, a rewarding problem to solve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a quiet, fun-loving BMX rider with a passion for bikes that has never faded. I spent my youth riding skateparks all across the DFW metroplex, and the highlight of those years was becoming a professional BMX rider. Traveling around the country—and even the world—with some of my best friends, all while doing what I loved, was an absolute blast. There’s nothing quite like a good ride with friends.

Today, that love for BMX lives on, and you can still find me at the local skateparks, now with my 3-year-old daughter by my side.
