Today we’d like to introduce you to Gerald Sanguino.
Hi Gerald, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
If I had to talk about something, it’d probably be all the car rides with my mother as a kid when she was taking clients out to show some properties. I learned from an early age how to establish rapport with clients of diverse backgrounds since she worked with most of the international relocations and embassies. Just from my keen observations, I was able to learn about construction, contracts, and negotiations. In the early 2000s, I moved to the United States to pursue my master’s degree. However last year, I found my way to real estate. And, it just made sense, you know? I felt like it was time for a change and continue the chase after the American dream.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Wanting to have a successful career doesn’t come easy. The job throws several obstacles on your path, and you have to dodge every single one of them. The phrase there are a lot more fish in the sea is usually something that can motivate people. But, in my line of work, it’s kinda a bad thing. There’s almost one real estate agent for every house on sale in Dallas. This much fish in the sea means, statistically speaking, the likelihood of being selected to work for a buyer or seller is very low. If you want to make sales in Dallas, you have to give it everything you got. If you are not good with your numbers, stats, presentation, market knowledge, social media and explaining a contract to your clients, then you are not the right person for the job.
We’d love to learn more about your work. What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
Well, you need to brace for impact to know this. I help clients looking to buy, sell or lease a residential or commercial property. I work at all price points and all sectors of the community. So far in my career, I’m significantly proud of three things. First was me being named the Rising Star in my office in 2020. Secondly, I obtained a commercial listing of $10,000,000+ in my first year. This was an incredible feat for me, and it was a sign that this is what I’m meant to be doing. Now obtaining that listing was not an easy whizzy task. Lastly, I am proud to have been contacted this week by an HGTV show as they would like me to do a casting for them with clients. So, if anyone out there wants to buy a house and does not mind being on TV, please contact me to be on the casting.
If you’re not doing something different from everyone else in the same position, you’re not growing. One aspect that sets me apart is that I listen to my clients’ needs, and I am always available to talk on the phone at any time. You got a problem; you call 911. If you got any real estate problems, well, I am your real estate 911. A real estate transaction can be sometimes stressful if there is no communication between client and agent. Clients need to be informed of the process. They’re about to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars. They have the right to be antsy. My listings also set me apart. I will tell my clients exactly what they need to do inside and outside the home in order to sell it for a higher price. I include professional photography with all my listings, which include aerial photos/videos and an effective social media marketing campaign. My real estate videos on social media usually have an average of over a thousand views. To finalize, all my clients receive a great closing present. My last client received a new 65’ Samsung TV as a closing gift.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I consider myself a 100% risk taker and have the willingness to get out of my comfort zone. I am a huge believer that if I don’t take the risk, I will never win. Of course, you will lose sometimes, and you will be disappointed. But, if you learn a lesson from that failure, you win – not immediately, but you will eventually. This truly applies to business. There is not a single successful person who has not failed several times. While most people think of taking a risk as “I may lose,” I would think “I may win.” It’s a glass-half-empty, half-full kind of thing.
