Meet Gina Galloway of Galloway Counseling Center in Keller

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Galloway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Gina. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I earned my Ph.D. in Counseling from UNT in 2007 and started out working as a counselor at an agency in Ft. Worth. I always knew I wanted to own my own practice, but was not sure how to get there. The agency where I worked was kind enough to allow me to build my practice while I still worked for them. Eventually my practice grew big enough that I left the agency to run my practice full time. I have grown even more and now have 5 other counselors working in my practice.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, growing my practice has gone smoothly. At times, my client load was low which was scary as that was my only source of income. I also struggled learning how to be a small business owner. I had gone to school for many years to learn how to be a psychotherapist, but never learned how to run a business.

Please tell us about Galloway Counseling Center.
In my practice, we see adults, children, and adolescents for individual counseling and also conduct couples’ and family counseling. We specialize in work with children and adolescents and specifically conduct play therapy with young children. We work a lot in the court system, seeing families for counseling who are going through a divorce or experiencing custody issues. One of the counselors in my practice has a licensed therapy dog and conducts animal assisted therapy. Another counselor is working towards her certification in dance movement therapy and conducts music and movement therapy.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I made mistakes along the way, but they helped me get to where I am now so I probably wouldn’t change anything.
