Meet Gina Kim of PKIN ART in Central Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gina Kim.

Gina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am a self-taught artist in the Dallas area with over 10 years of experience as an artist. Professionally started in 2016 as Artist Pkin. My mediums mainly consist of acrylic paints and am known for my art style which is usually brightly colored, abstract and has intricate line work. My inspiration heavily comes from my childhood, I am a daydreamer and would often doodles all over my schoolwork. In every painting, I encourage others to “Look Closer, Enjoy More” – a motto that I try to follow in both aspects of art AND life. I work closely with local Dallas Mural Artist, Joe Skilz and we have teamed up to bring many art events to Dallas since 2017.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There has definitely been struggles in my art career, there are a lot of ‘invisible stigmas’..once I got past those and learned what kind of artist I wanted to become, it was easy to move forward and define long term goals. Getting myself out there professionally has been quite a competitive journey. Re-inventing designs has been challenging, but essential to capturing the audience’s curiosity of ‘Looking Closer, and Enjoying More’.

Please tell us about PKIN ART – what should we know?
My mediums mainly consist of acrylic paints and am known for my art style which is usually brightly colored, abstract, sometimes lowbrow and has intricate line work. I am best known for my signature rose paintings which have been the center point of my career. My inspiration heavily comes from my childhood, I am a daydreamer and would often scribble intricate doodles all over my schoolwork like a mad man. In every painting, I encourage others to “Look Closer, Enjoy More” – a motto that I try to follow in both aspects of art AND life. I also have a store company called Art Loot 52 that sells local artwork from both myself as well as local Artist Joe Skilz. We also participate and/or curate many pop up art events throughout the year in Dallas, our most recent show was in July at the Sheratan Hotel in Dallas.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My art partner, Joe Skilz, local Dallas Muralist with over 20 years of experience. Tremendous supporter and motivator.
