Today we’d like to introduce you to Ginger Stover.
Ginger, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all got started when I decided I wanted to decorate my home with meaningful pieces of art. I have had the opportunity to live in many parts of the world with my family. I spent 16 years of my childhood in Thailand, and I also spent 4 years in Poland with my husband and three kids. I wanted to fill my home with these special memories. The first piece of art I made was a sign that had the names of all the cities, states, and countries I’d lived in. The second piece was a sign with an address of the places we’d called home. I continued to add pieces such as our love song, favorite quotes I share with my kids, and skylines of cities I have visited. An idea began to grow that I could help other people put meaningful signs in their homes based on their love stories, adventures, and special memories.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My hardest struggle was relocating to Texas and starting back at square one. I started 97 Home Design in Plainfield, Illinois. Two years after starting my company, our family had to relocate to Texas due to my daughter’s health. After two years in the Chicago land area, I had built up a good clientele and knew which handmade markets were the good ones to participate in. When we moved here, all my clients and markets were back in Illinois. I didn’t even know where to start looking for good markets. I had to start back with trial and error.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the 97 Home Design story. Tell us more about the business.
97 Home Design is a handmade sign business. I make all my sign from scratch. I cut the wood, stain it, create the design, paint it, and frame it. I specialize in making custom pieces. I take my clients vision and turn it into a piece of art for their home. I am most proud of the fact that I am helping people decorate their homes with special memories, one of a kind pieces, that can’t be bought at the big box stores. A piece that is unique to their experiences. A piece that can be passed down to their kids. As far as what sets me and my company apart, I’m not so sure. I would describe my self as just an ordinary Wife and Mom who loves making meaningful pieces of art for others. I slave over every detail of each piece that I create.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck, but God has been very good to me.
