, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
GMFS Mortgage is Louisiana’s largest and most respected Mortgage Banker and is expanding. 2 years ago we (around 20 of us) came over from another local mortgage company together to start up GMFS’ Texas branch. We are embracing the Cajun theme while changing lives. We just moved into our brand new office in Frisco and we like to tell people how we are different from all the other mortgage lenders around town:
– We have everything in one office: origination, processing, underwriting and closing (no need to wait on anyone in another office or timezone to get answers.
– We service nearly all the loans we originate. This has 2 benefits to the customer:
1) we follow the federal regulations with very few overlays (tighter underwriting rules) which means more people qualify for a home loan.
2) since we retain the servicing we are able to maintain the customer relationship and act more like a trusted mortgage advisor than just another ‘transaction’
– We have a reputation for not only closing on time, but getting documents to the title company 3-5 days before closing giving everyone in the transaction the peace of mind that there will not be any last minute surprises
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
since our core team have all worked together 6+ years, the transition was easy and we all like working together. The struggle is getting our name recognition out with the sea of other (less efficient) lenders. While everyone in Louisiana knows who GMFS is, no one in TX has heard of us. Our goal is capture that same reputation and respect here throughout the lone start state!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the GMFS Mortgage story. Tell us more about the business.
most of that was outlined in the prior question but what stands out mostly from an origination perspective is that we help more people than most other lenders. not only do we have very few overlays (tighter than the federal regulations), we also offer products that many other lenders don’t have because of our strength and reputation. We offer Fannie Mae’s homestyle renovation loan along with a one time close product and nearly every other product offered in the market today.
our seasoned originators know the products and are very good at effective communication throughout the entire loan process keeping everyone updated. While that sounds simple, many lenders don’t provide a lot of communication which causes frustration.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
the only “lucky” part I feel is that our current team found each other to work with. We truly have a great team of people who all have the same objective to help the customer and because we have all been in the industry for a long period of time, we all have the knowledge to make things not only work, but work very well!
