Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Piazza.
Greg, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began painting in 2004 as a method to take my mind away from my grief from my brother’s death in a car accident. I filled every minute of my free time working with the oils and experimenting with color and shapes. In 2005 I co-founded Gallery 7NINE along with a friend who was also painting. We built the www.gallery7nine.com website and starting holding pop-up shows before we knew what pop-up shows were. As the popularity of the events grew we connected with other artists to exhibit their artworks.
In 2007 I shifted my focus to working with designers, art consultants, high-end retail, and galleries. My art was being displayed across Dallas, New York, Scottsdale, and Atlanta. This was a successful venture until the housing crisis when I went back to self-representation and started focusing more on my photography.
In 2015 I reconnected with the Dragon St. gallery scene and landed a solo exhibition at WALL Gallery. Unfortunately, WALL Gallery closed in 2016 and while was searching for a studio space I was introduced to the Gallery 7NINE space at 830 Exposition Ave. Today the gallery is still open during the week by appointment and on Saturday’s from 1 pm – 5 pm.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
If any business hasn’t incurred challenges or obstacles along the way they are not trying hard enough. My biggest obstacle is finding enough time to handle everything. My other job has unpredictable hours and travel requirements so it’s hard to plan. Trying to get designers to connect with you also seems tougher than it should. I’ve met some great designers along the way and am grateful for the ones who keep up with my work via email and social media.
Please tell us about Gallery 7NINE.
Gallery 7NINE specializes in contemporary artworks by Greg Piazza @the_dallas_artist an award winning and museum exhibited artist with a strong focus on color and shape. The gallery is currently discussing representation with a sculpture and will have periodic special exhibitions with guest artists or collaborating out-of-state galleries.
I am most proud of the gallery for its attention to client service. I realize that my purpose is to serve my clients, I don’t exist without them. I am very responsive to the communication I receive and never miss a deadline. I want to make my clients’ experience as easy as possible from scheduling appointments around their availability to delivery and installation of the artworks.
I feel that the customer service aspect sets me apart from others as well as my flexibility. I’ll meet someone at midnight if they want me to.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Family trips to Destin FL. I love the beach and you can’t beat the Destin area.
