Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregg Gallian.
Gregg, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
After my first year of law school, I thought to myself, “I might quit.” I hated it. I went to law school with hopes and dreams of being a big-time corporate lawyer. I couldn’t have been more wrong about my career path. It wasn’t until we were forced by the law school to do a courtroom competition where I found my calling. The rush, the excitement, and the unknown of what was happening next was where I felt most comfortable. I immediately joined the mock trial program and, after that, life just seemed to be on the right path. After leaving St. Mary’s Law School in San Antonio, Texas, I moved to Dallas with only one goal in mind – becoming a Dallas County Prosecutor. I knew that Prosecutors took more cases to trial than any other area of law and for me, that decision was simple. While at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office, I quickly gained a reputation as a trial lawyer. Eventually, I received an offer from a criminal defense firm in Dallas who was looking for another lawyer. At that firm, I tried cases ranging from misdemeanors to first-degree felonies and state cases to federal cases. However, what I didn’t anticipate was how much I loved helping people. For more than three years at that firm, I witnessed how my hard work and the results I achieved, changed people’s lives forever. From that point forward, I was hooked. That’s why, in May of 2019, I made the conscious decision to start my own firm – Gallian Defense Firm. We only handle state and federal criminal defense with one mission in mind – fighting for our clients. Every single one of them. I see far too often lawyers who don’t fight and don’t care. It is an honor and a privilege that my firm will never take lightly. We represent real people with real problems.
Has it been a smooth road?
The decision to start my own criminal defense firm was not an easy one. I had a job and was handling a lot of cases on a day-to-day basis. Leaving a guaranteed paycheck is never an easy decision. However, I always thought that if I had less clients, with more time to spend on each case, I could work wonders.
As with any business start-up, I had to find a way to separate myself from other lawyers and start getting some clients. While the first few weeks were met with stale phone lines and emails from marketing services wanting all of my money, the business started coming in. What started as one call a week, quickly turned to four and five. It seems that every time I start to doubt myself or my firm, the clients start calling. Often times, the clients come from previous clients who trust me to help their friends and family.
My wife, Jaclyn Gallian, who is also an attorney at a great firm, has been my rock. No one knows me better than she does. Days where she could tell I was nervous, worried, or frantic, were often met with her saying “you better enjoy the slow days because, before too long, you’re going to be too busy and wish you enjoyed these days more.” In the back of my mind, I always hoped she was right but wasn’t ever really sure if she would be. Turns out, she was right.
Please tell us more about your firm, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Gallian Defense Firm is a law firm that handles state and federal criminal cases all around the DFW metroplex. Our firm specializes in criminal defense and we don’t handle any other area of law. Criminal defense is what we are great at!
In a world full of lawyers on t.v. with catchy sayings, or billboards, or bus stop signs, we differentiate ourselves in one way – we care. At no point, will any client of ours ever wonder if we are truly doing everything we can to fight for them. At the end of the day, clients want to know that they hired the right lawyer and at Gallian Defense Firm, we go out of our way to reassure them all the way through the process that they did. Our results speak for themselves, but, we believe what former clients say about us means more.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely. Any area that has a heavily concentrated area of people, like Dallas, is a great place for a criminal defense firm.
A lot of criminal lawyers are scared about another firm opening up. They think that it will steal business from their firm. My opinion is different – I believe that there are plenty of cases to go around – and, at the end of the day, if you’re doing everything you possibly can for your clients, the “business” will take care of itself.
