Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Grisham.
Stephanie, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a young child, I knew that I wanted to be a special education teacher. I was born with that desire. I was also always highly interested in animals. When my husband was transferred to McKinney in. 2004, we bought a farm and opened Grisham Farms Therapy Zoo to serve individuals with special needs. Within 2 years we were serving local schools and families throughout the community by hosting events at the farm and taking our small animals into schools and care centers to share our love and knowledge of animals.
In August of 2016, we sold the farm but still enjoy our taking our small animals into schools, homes, and businesses for children and adults.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The few challenges that we have experienced are mostly animal antics. Escaped donkeys or cows that had to be tracked down and led back home in a middle of the night private parade.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Grisham Farms Animal Connections specializes in bringing small, interesting animals to offsite locations. Our staff is professional and very kid friendly. Adults and children alike love our programs, staff and animals.
We are very proud to have been operating our business for over 12 years. Our programs are designed to meet each audience’s needs and interests. Our staff is very comfortable and competent serving families with special needs, it is our passion. We are happy to provide half price programs for families with disabilities.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was a one good friend kind of girl with a huge heart for individuals with disabilities.
My first few volunteer jobs were serving in a nursing home and at the county mental health office. I also loved animals.
As a teen, my “dream house” would have a screened in sunroom that housed birds and rabbits all freely roaming the room. It even had flaps thy lifted up at the bottom to allow the room to be hosed down. I still secretly have this dream- don’t tell my husband, he is not a big fan of animals. If you know how many animals I have, you will know how much he loves me.
