Meet Uma Mohan of Growing IQ in Frisco

Today we’d like to introduce you to Uma Mohan.

Uma, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
During my childhood, I was always curious to understand the ‘WHY’ behind a concept and did experiments to see “HOW” it works. As a parent, I wanted a similar learning experience for my children instead of just memorizing facts and formulas. In 2016, when we moved into Texas from California with elementary-age children, I was searching for a learning program that would emphasize hands-on experiments to connect conceptual understanding to abstract learning. After searching the entire DFW metroplex, I couldn’t find any program that fit my criteria and as a result, Growing IQ in Texas came to life.

Growing IQ is a math-centric, enrichment program that allows a child to analyze, discover, examine, and take ownership of their mathematical learning through sensory-rich and collaborative learning experiences. Students are grouped based on their ability and not by age or grade.

We strive to create enthusiastic problem-solvers, big picture thinkers, and math lovers. There is no homework, but our students take their learning to the real world to observe the patterns and extend their reasoning and analysis skills in other STEAM subjects beyond math. For more details, visit https://www.txgrowingiq.com.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with every new business, we faced challenges during each phase of the business. Our current struggle is finding teachers who have the experience to guide students to think out of the box and provide a learning experience without direct teaching them the concepts. If you are a teacher and interested in learning more about open positions at Growing IQ, please send your resume and cover letter to frisco@txgrowingiq.com

Please tell us about Growing IQ.
Growing IQ is a math-centric enrichment program that engages a child (pre-kinder to 6th grade) in inquiry-based collaborative learning experiences allowing them to connect materials and ideas to derive their understandings of higher-level abstract mathematical concepts with confidence and ease.

During COVID-19, we are offering online interactive classes with our qualified teachers. Parents can register their children for a group and/or one-on-one session. For more details, please contact us or visit https://www.txgrowingiq.com/online.

We have a sister program for toddlers called Math Music Motion, a revolutionary program that focuses on child development from a neurological perspective, using creative and age-appropriate math, music, and motion curriculum that will have a child laughing and playing their way toward a foundation of enhanced educational success. For more details, visit https://www.mathmusicmotion.com.

We are also offering STEAM-based camp during summer, winter, and spring breaks. To register for a camp, go to bit.ly/GrowingIQ.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Thinking through, I was blessed to have the right guidance and mentorship at every corner of the journey. The one thing that I would have done differently in today’s world is the marketing strategy.
