Today we’d like to introduce you to Gwen Burno.
Gwen, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
This day was a long time in the making. I believe all of my experiences in the past have shaped me to become a Life Coach/Ramsey Preferred Financial Coach and Christian Speaker. The experiences include my struggles and successes which allow me to empathize and celebrate with my clients. My undergraduate education was a lesson in perseverance. My first corporate position which included relocating to a new city without knowing anyone was a lesson in resiliency. My time spent in Anchorage, Alaska (5 1/2 years) developed my faith. Obtaining my M.B.A. gave me the satisfaction of achieving a goal. Raising three children, one with a disability, helped me with patience and compassion. Being married for 28 years taught me the meaning of pace, one day at a time. And obtaining a seminary degree from Dallas Theological Seminary humbled me.
These experiences developed and shaped my natural gifts/talents of vision, insight and communication. And if you combine the experiences, education, gifts and talents, the outcome is Llife Coach/Financial Coach and Christian Speaker. I am where I am today because I choose to pursue a purposeful path for my life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think I would be more concerned if the road was smooth. I believe the struggles are necessary in order to refine the vision. The only analogy to developing a business that I think is comparable is birthing a child. This is my ‘baby’ – totally created from my own genetic disposition. I did not copy or duplicate an existing program. The struggles include rolling out the vision and remaining true to my identity. I have to be careful not to be swayed into being someone who I am not. I want the business to represent me, my thoughts and ideas. At all times, I must protect my character as genuine and sincere.
My struggles have included website and marketing design and ensuring that my vision translates into a message that others understand and receive. I struggle with clients who I really want to help, but they choose not to follow through for various reasons. It’s a struggle to keep moving forward with each setback, but I move because I love what I’m doing!
Please tell us more about your work. What do you do? What do you specialize in? What sets you apart from competition?
The name of the business is Wisdom & Wellness LLC, displaystrength.com. I am a partner who makes your wellbeing a priority. Wisdom and Wellness was formed to offer contemplative advice to clients while addressing their physical, financial, mental, spiritual and professional goals. As an avid reader and lifelong learner, I am constantly challenging myself to grow and develop. I pass on these truths and principles to my clients. As we are discussing challenges, concerns and successes, the primary goal is to create a life that is meaningful and honors God.
What do I do? I help people see what I see in them. I give courage to people to take action on what they see for themselves. I am an advisor, cheerleader, accountability partner, motivator, confidant and a constant reminder to not let go of the dream or goal. Let’s get it done!
I encourage people to get out of debt – dream buster! I assist others in getting their business ideas on paper and taking the initial steps. I help people to set boundaries in their lives and make themselves a priority. I help people to let go of the past and show them the future is so much brighter. Plus more…
I am proud that I have discovered that the purpose in my life is to serve others with my natural gifts and talents. I love helping others become successful and cheering them on to greatness.
What sets me apart? Me. There is no one like me. There is no one who can coach like I do. I am uniquely created to deliver an impactful message to my clients. I expect greatness from anyone who is utilizing my services. I do not accept excuses. I grew up in a small rural town and I know firsthand what happens when you are deliberate and intentional with your life.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I have an understanding heart. I have experienced a great deal personally in my life. I have made horrible mistakes and walk in forgiveness and freedom. I learned to forgive myself and show self-compassion. I have experienced losses, grieved and continue to grieve many years later. So empathy is a huge component to my success. I seldom hear a story that causes me to gasp out of shock. I am not interested in judging or condemning anyone’s decisions. I know that everyone is capable of making better choices given the right information and support. I’ve seen it happen before. It happened for me. I love seeing hope in action and delivering hope to others.
