Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailee Dyer.
Hi Hailee, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My story is one of community and being exposed to the world of theater in such an immersive way. Since I was young, theater and acting were my passions and my only love. As I got older, I entered many programs around theater that exposed me to every level and form of the craft. In high school, I was a part of a production company that you one had to audition to be a part of, but everyone involved was accredited both acting jobs and crew jobs. You could not be a part of the cast without having a crew job. This is what began my love for the behind-the-scenes. I begun working as. a stage manager at a local theater shortly after, and at the same time, I was getting casted for films. It wasn’t until I worked with women directors that I realized just how much of myself I saw in what they do. I believe this is what made me a great actress.
After a few years of studying, I decided to open my own production company that focused on not only producing quality productions but also providing an opportunity for community members to learn even more about the craft they are a part of. This was extremely important to me as this is what jump-started my career and allowed me the real-life experience to grow outside of my educational background.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been uniquely mine. There has been gradual growth but every season does come with its own set of challenges.
We’ve been impressed with Applewood Productions LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Applewood Productions is a Production house specializing in both Films and Theaterical Plays. We have produced short films, visual albums, and a full round of plays, and more. We are different from most companies because we believe in pushing the envelope all the way open. We create meaningful, visually pleasing work that enhances the heart of all who are involve and all who witness what we produce. The goal is to allow people to see more of themselves, learn, and be empowered through our storytelling.
We are a film house that will work with you from the beginning of your project when it is in seed form. We love fleshing out the concept and staying on board until we see it come to life.
For Plays, it is the same way. Pop Up Plays is a program we started in 2022 that allows independent writers to submit their one-act works to be produced in a full 3-week run of the shows. The plays are immersive in nature and allow the audience to see something that has never been done.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Applewood Productions cares heavily about creating meaningful works. We believe that you do not have to compromise your morals or your heart to be successful in the entertainment industry. We believe it is important to provide spaces for more opportunities, especially in the Dallas area. We hope to eventually be able to work with schools to provide internship programs for students looking to have a job in the industry after college. This is an industry you find a lot of people going at it alone. We hope to be the change.
