Thanks for sharing your story with us Halee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Sugar. by Halee Cake Company in my tiny apartment kitchen with just a hand mixer, my grandmother’s recipes and a big dream. I am a one-woman show and proof that with a little determination (and a lot less sleep) you can truly do anything. Today I have clients across Texas and into parts of Oklahoma.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. I would say making time for my business has been the biggest struggle so far. I have 2 children, ages 3 and 4 months, who need my attention all day so 99% of business happens after bedtime! Night after night I find myself up working until 5 or 6 am to complete orders. I absolutely love baking and I would not change a thing! Who really needs sleep anyways?

I am a one-woman show. I pride myself in being able to provide beautiful and affordable custom cakes that taste great! I specialize in buttercream wedding cakes, but I absolutely love working with fondant and modeling chocolate. I think the fact that I can work with many different edible materials and continue to grow as a baker/decorator sets me apart from others who don’t like stepping out of their comfort zones. I have met many bakers in the area who refuse to make fondant cakes.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely! Dallas has so many amazing vendors who love taking new business owners under their wing and giving them helpful tips and advice. I know I wouldn’t be where I am today without them!

- Naked cakes start at $4 per serving.
- Buttercream cakes start at $5 per serving.
- Fondant cakes start at $7 per serving.
