Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Burkhead.
Haley, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started out in a really tiny town in Arkansas where I was raised to check the boxes. You get through high school, go to a really nice college that people brag about, get married, have a full-time job that you spend your weekends complaining about, and you live that cookie-cutter life. As I grew older, I realized that although there was nothing wrong living this way, I wasn’t designed to fit that mold. I fought the cookie-cutter life with every fiber of my being.
Even though my mind was constantly filled with creative, out of the box ideas, I had no fancy business degree, no rich parents that could just give me money to start a business, no connections. But then, there was a day in April of 2018 where my friend asked me while I was sitting at my desk at my job as an ad strategist at an agency, “Haley, how many people are you impacting while you work at this job?”
And I said, “Well… maybe a hundred or so” Then he said, “Haley, how many people are you NOT impacting because you are at this job?” I quit the next day. And I was finally able to breathe fully for the first time in my life. With $12 in my business bank account and an idea for a membership site, I became an unstoppable force of energy while I brought my idea to a profitable reality.
In 30 days, I made $13,000. In six months, I was making consistently $36,000 every single month in Recurring Profit. My work, my life, my career is to show everyone everywhere that you can beat the odds and create whatever future you truly want. This is the beginning of what I do now, helping course creators make their first one million dollars with an automated sales machine. You deserve everything that fills your mind right now. Has it been a smooth road?
Oh, goodness, no. Entrepreneurship is never a smooth road. But that’s the beauty of it! As an entrepreneur, you learn to love the bumps and blocks in the road because on the other side. You become a stronger person that can handle larger bumps and blocks in the future. I remember when I first hit half a million in business and this mindset block came up all of a sudden. It was this thought that played on repeat “you’re too stupid to grow the business past this point.” And I tried to ignore the thought by watching a lot of Netflix and eating but for some reason watching TV only drowns out the noise in your head for so long. As soon as the TV turns off, the thoughts are still there.
I made the mistake of hiring an expert to come into my business. This wasn’t a mistake because the expert was terrible; she was extremely talented and amazing. This was a mistake because the intention behind this decision was because I let my thought “you’re too stupid” dictate my decision making around being confident in me stepping up as the CEO. I let her make major decisions and within 60 days, our 70% profit margins were in the negative. We lost $17,000 in one month and the money lost was not money that was invested in creating a return. This expensive lesson taught me to trust myself. Fully trust my gut and my brain. Ever since then, I have learned how to build a better relationship with my brain so I don’t drown out thoughts or ignore gut feelings anymore. It’s become one of my most powerful tools as I scale my company.
