Meet Haley Coon of Restoration Threads in Arlington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Coon.

Haley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Restoration Threads just launched in January of 2018. This idea was planted when my husband and I first became foster parents. We were beyond blessed by our village when we received our first foster placement. Within hours of the child’s arrival, we were blessed with meals for weeks, gift cards, diapers, babysitting, and constant prayers and encouragement. We were amazed at how many people wanted to be a part of our foster care journey. We realize that not everyone is called to be a foster parent. When given the opportunity, however, almost everyone around us felt called to be a part of our journey. Many people expressed, “I am not able to become a foster parent; but what else can I do to help?” After doing some research, we realized that there are many organizations already doing incredible things for the foster care community. We wanted to create a tangible way to help connect the many people who wanted to support foster care. This is where the idea of Restoration Threads was born.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been fairly smooth so far, mostly, because of the immediate support of our village. The biggest struggle has been getting the word out to people beyond our circle of friends. Since we donate a large portion of our proceeds to a different foster care organization each month, there isn’t a lot of extra money to spend on advertising. We are only five months in and are working hard to get the word out about our mission for foster care.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Restoration Threads – what should we know?
Restoration Threads’ mission is to raise awareness and provide support for various foster care organizations. We choose a different foster care organization each month to financially support through our merchandise sales. We also highlight details about these organizations on social media and share stories about how they are making a difference in their community. We advocate for the 400,000 children in foster care and the organizations that are making an impact on the foster care community. What sets us apart is that you aren’t just buying a t-shirt. When you purchase a shirt from our company, you know that your money is supporting something so much bigger. You know that you are making a difference and being a hero for foster care.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion. I am embarrassed to admit that my husband and I were fairly naïve to the foster care crisis before we began our foster care journey. We knew the need was great and that we felt called to be foster parents… we had no idea how vast the need really was. We have never felt so passionate about any calling in our lives. We will continue to make advocating for the foster care community our life’s work because these kids deserve it. Our passion to raise awareness about foster care and the Lord’s favor in this endeavor is what is most important to our continued success.
