Hannah and Preston, please share your story with us.
I (Hannah) grew up in a family of creatives and have always had a passion for art. I picked up a camera around 16 and haven’t put it down. I fell in love with photography and have pursued it for as long as I can remember. I went to school for art, met Preston, fell in love, got married and shortly after started our company Cottonwood Road Photography. I had never shot a wedding before but a friend of a friend asked if I would shoot her wedding and with full knowledge that I had never shot one before she hired me! I had 6 months to learn everything I could possibly know about shooting a bouquet, a couple, a bride, etc. I fell in love with the wedding industry and my first wedding could not have been better. At this point, we had already begun booking out our year and three months later, Preston and I hardly saw each other. He had a 9-5, I worked weekends. So, something had to give. Preston picked up a camera and started shooting weddings with me and now we’ve been a husband and wife photography team for 5+ years. We love our job, we love our couples and the people in this industry, some of which have become some of our best friends. This journey has been amazing and unexpected and we are so beyond blessed!
Has it been a smooth road?
For the first two years, we were balancing full times jobs and photography but our passion has always been found with working for ourselves, pursuing our family and more time for each other and our clients so we wanted to do everything possible to make this work and we’ve now been full-time photographers for over 3 years!

Cottonwood Road Photography specializes in wedding photography but once our couples started having babies and families we started photographing those too! Bright sunshiny days are our favorite because we love shooting film and emulating film through our digital work as well. We take a great interest in our couples getting to know them through personal client meetings and continued friendship building throughout the whole process. The one thing people have said over and over and over that we keep coming back to is the sentence ” they felt just like family.” We love getting to be part of the family on the wedding day and beyond. We feel like a personal connection between photographer and couple truly gives you better photos and an overall better experience!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Dallas is teeming with photographers. You know why? Because Dallas is teeming with people. Dallas is an amazing place to start a business in photography or in the wedding industry because there is plenty of business to go around! Of course, I think all photographers might wish for an ocean view or scenic mountain backdrop close enough to shoot on a regular basis, but truly Dallas has some beautiful hidden gems that are perfect for photos. We mentor in photography as well and have loved seeing our mentees thrive in Dallas and their businesses truly take off!
