Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Fan.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve been in the nails industry over 20 years. My parents were entrepreneurs; they came to the US 39 years ago from Vietnam believe in the American dream. They are my heart and soul in my business. Growing up my parents has always instill in us that you work hard, stay passionate, BELIEVE in yourself and trust that your dreams can become a reality. I have always love what I do and have own a few other salons before moving to San Antonio. Each salon was challenging and new learning experience. Two years ago, my family packed up from Las Vegas and relocated to San Antonio. With our three children, widow mother and a new beginning. My entrepreneur spirit has me always searching for a location and my love for helping women feel beautiful is what fuels me.
I search and research the surrounding areas and found that there was a lack of or none boutique nail salon. I wanted to create a beautiful space, where women can laugh, feel good, clean, customer service focused and product knowledge. I wanted women to enjoy the experience and look forward to coming back and not something they just needed done quick and out. Holding someone hand can be very intimate and sharing each others life story is something that we do on the daily. We create friendships and its like seeing your friends every two or three weeks. I sat to find a location and stumble upon a 975 sqt ft office like space with large windows that face the courtyard that looks out to a bamboo garden. I saw it envision what I wanted to look feel and energy I wanted it to give out. We design a huge neon sign plop against our white pearlescent wall saying “GOOD VIBES ONLY”. We design a separate area for natural nails services includes pedicures and manicures. Not to mention we glitter the wall out.
We specialize in nail art everything you see that is trending on Instagram and Pinterest. I then search for artists that was like-minded and has similar vision. To create this beautiful space I needed a team that was passionate, customer focused and take pride in their work. I wanted the artist to have a work-life balance as well. So I tried something I never did, online booking! My artist was able to manage their own schedule and clients were able to book 24/7 with full transparency on pricing. June 1, 2019 will be a year and there is four of us working and we are booked and continue to grow.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There were many struggles from the get-go! I moved here not knowing the market, contacts, friends or clients. But I knew one thing that I was great at what I did and I know that if I just take care of my customer one at a time then that is a good start. I would build my clients and team as I grow. My dad taught me to take pride in my work and always treat all customer with honesty. I use social media to brand and my clients word of mouth. It is very difficult to run a business, be a mom and a wife but it is all worth it. I’m able to go to work but it doesn’t feel like work and take care of my family at the same time.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Haus Of Polish – what should we know?
Haus Of Polish we are a modern boutique nails salon. We specialized in nail art, natural nails, nail enhancements, and nail care workshops. We are known for our expertise in nail art, knowledge of nail care and products. I’m most proud of my team, Elaine Neri, Jessica Yeatman, Erica Litmiaco they are my superstars. They help me create this space I envision. We are different from other salons in many ways. We are appointments only, customer-centered, nail art experts, attends industry convention, educating our clients on products and keep up with all nails trends. Both Jessica and are both license Instructor in our industry. Dora having art as her backgrounds can hand sculpts acrylic nails and bling them out like magic!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Honesty is the most important I feel, having transparency on pricing and educating clients on different services. Putting the clients best interest first.
